Overwatch 2 Changing How Mythic Skins Are Unlocked in Season 19

Overwatch 2 is updating how players earn Mythic hero skins. The new system will have a clear progression path for each skin tier, aiming to make the purchase experience more rewarding. These changes will launch with the start of Overwatch 2 Season 19 on October 14, featuring the Divine Druid skin for Lifeweaver.

In *Overwatch 2*, Mythic skins are special customizable items you unlock using Mythic Prisms, a premium currency. Beginning with Reaper’s skin in Season 12, these skins follow an ‘Evolution Paradigm,’ which means they change and become more detailed as you progress through the Battle Pass, appearing to ‘level up’ with each tier.

New Mythic Skin Tier System in Overwatch 2

Recently, Blizzard received feedback that the initial unlock levels for premium skins in *Overwatch 2* weren’t very appealing. As a result, they’ve completely revamped the system for Season 19. According to game producer Ren Soanes, the new Mythic skin progression will start with the complete base skin, including unique visuals and sounds. The second tier unlocks customization options, like different flower back pieces for the Divine Druid Lifeweaver skin. Players can then unlock all available color variations in the third tier, and finally, the last tier adds even more visual effects.

To get a Mythic skin, players will still need to purchase all four tiers of Mythic Aspects first.

  • Tier 1: Mythic skin, visual and sound effects
  • Tier 2: Customizable parts
  • Tier 3: All color variants
  • Tier 4: Ambient visual effects toggle

We don’t yet know if this new system will change how older, special-edition (Mythic) skins work, but it doesn’t look like it will. Updating those 18 skins would be a significant undertaking. Players can expect future Mythic skins, starting with Divine Druid Lifeweaver in *Overwatch 2* Season 19, to follow this new tiered system.

Season 19 of Overwatch 2 is changing things up with Mythic skins. For the first time, two Mythic hero skins will be released in a single season – the first is Cyber Fuel Junkrat, coming with the mid-season update. It’s currently unknown if this will become the new standard, with every season featuring two Mythic skins, or if this season is an exception.

Kiriko will receive a new Mythic weapon skin called Spirit Keeper this season in *Overwatch 2*. It features blue flames, a unique animation, and a fox-themed effect when you defeat opponents. The way you unlock Mythic skins will stay the same as before. However, with three Mythic skins available in Season 19, players will need to carefully consider how they spend their Mythic Prisms earned from the *Overwatch 2* Premium Battle Pass.
