Before the planned July 31 release, AMD announced that it would postpone the launch of its upcoming Ryzen 9000 series processors due to manufacturing issues uncovered on social media. According to AMD, the delay won’t last long as they have set new release dates for the Ryzen 9000 lineup, which fall between August 8 and 15.
1. The AMD Ryzen 9000 processors belong to the fifth generation of Zen architecture. Known as the follow-up to the existing Zen 4 series, which encompasses CPUs such as the Ryzen 7 7800X3D, the upcoming AMD Ryzen 9000 line will retain the AM5 socket similar to its predecessors. On social media, preliminary Blender benchmark results have shown that the top-tier Ryzen 9 9950X operates at a maximum frequency of 5.85 GHz, on par with the Ryzen 9 7950X. This same benchmark indicates that the enterprise-grade Ryzen 9 9950X can match the Intel Core i9-12900K processor in terms of performance while consuming significantly less power at 60W, making it an attractive option for potential buyers.
AMD had initially scheduled the launch of their Ryzen 9000 CPUs for July 31, but this date is no longer feasible. As reported by Tom’s Hardware, the Ryzen 9000 series has been delayed to August 8 and 15 due to manufacturing issues. Some batches of processors had errors that required AMD to recall them before release. One of these issues was a printing error that led to confusion over the labels of some CPUs, with a Ryzen 7 9700X being incorrectly labeled as a “Ryzen 9 9700X.” A Twitter user named 9550pro shared an image of a mislabeled Ryzen 7 9700X CPU. It is uncertain if other processors, such as the Ryzen 9 9900X, were similarly affected. AMD has acknowledged identifying problems during testing that resulted in some batches being withdrawn from release, but they have not specified whether these printing errors were among them.
Sources Claim AMD Ryzen 9000 CPUs Were Misprinted
AMD announced that consumers planning to buy the Ryzen 9000 series processors won’t have to wait much longer, as the Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X are now slated for release on August 8. Conversely, the launch of the Ryzen 9 9900X and 9950X has been delayed by a week, to August 15. Furthermore, AMD is set to introduce an updated version of its Zen 3 lineup, named the Ryzen 5000XT series, which was initially planned for release on July 31.
AMD’s Ryzen 9000 release has been postponed, as Intel grapples with problems in the development of its 13th and 14th generation processors. With both tech giants encountering CPU production challenges, it remains to be seen how consumers will respond in the coming months.
