Atomfall: Best Melee Weapons, Ranked

Ammo is hard to come by in Atomfall, and good ranged weapons are scarce in the Quarantine Zone. Because of this, you’ll probably rely on melee weapons a lot, and some of them can be just as good – or even better – than guns.

Whether you prefer a modern Stun Stick or a classic Mace, there are many options for taking down enemies up close. You can also improve how well these weapons work by using special in-game boosts and abilities.

No matter where you explore in Atomfall—from the wide-open fields of Skethermoore to the dark tunnels of The Interchange—these melee weapons will help you defend yourself against all kinds of dangers, whether they’re human players or terrifying creatures.

7. Hatchet

A Quick and Easy One-Hander

The Hatchet is a simple, yet useful, close-combat weapon. It works best when fighting weaker enemies such as Outlaws and Druids.

The simplest way to find one is to go to Casterfell Woods and continue north on the road. You’ll eventually see it stuck in a tree close to Mother Jago’s trading post.

The Hatchet isn’t the strongest weapon, but its quick attacks can rapidly stun enemies.

As a player, I’ve found this one-handed weapon to be really useful in a lot of situations. It’s super versatile! But honestly, when I’m facing really tough enemies, I usually switch to something with a bit more power.

6. Stun Stick

Prod and Shock Your Opponents

The Stun Stick isn’t the most powerful weapon, but it’s surprisingly useful. Instead of swinging it, you quickly jab it forward, which is perfect for quickly moving past enemies when you’re in a rush.

While it can be deadly with repeated use, there are more effective ways to inflict significant damage.

Despite its drawbacks, the Stun Stick remains a valuable weapon for close combat, particularly against quick opponents like Ferals and Druids.

You can find the Stun Stick in two locations. First, check the Robotics facility in The Interchange – it’s near a scientist’s body close to the entrance of the Robot Maintenance Area. Second, look at the Protocol Field Station in Skethermoore.

5. Heavy Survival Knife

THIS is a Knife

The Heavy Survival Knife—though it functions more like a large explorer’s machete—is a durable and powerful weapon, and one of the strongest you can wield with just one hand in the game.

This weapon can stun opponents and cause them to bleed for a while. It feels well-rounded, dealing moderate damage at a good pace.

The Heavy Survival Knife hits harder than the Farming Knife, but it swings a little slower.

You can find this knife in a few places during the game, but the easiest way to get it is to check the inventory of Corporal “Bootsy” Hughes, a trader located in Skethermoore.

4. Spiked Club

Primitive But Effective

The Spiked Club is a powerful two-handed weapon you’ll want to find. It’s effective because it both crushes enemies and causes bleeding damage.

You’ll often find the Spiked Club used by weaker enemies in areas like Slatten Dale and Casterfell Woods. This means you can get it fairly early in the game, either as a different weapon choice or if you happened to lose your Cricket Bat.

Similar to a cricket bat, this weapon has a broad swing that lets you hit several enemies at the same time. A strong hit, combined with helpful upgrades, can instantly defeat opponents.

3. Cricket Bat

An English Tradition

In the game Atomfall, the Cricket Bat is a famous and powerful weapon. Skilled players can even earn the “Hit for Six” achievement by deflecting enemy grenades back at them using it.

You can find this weapon relatively early in the game by defeating Outlaws in Slatten Dale, and it’s common enough that it’s likely to be one of your first discoveries.

The Cricket Bat is available early in the game, and it’s actually quite effective. It has solid damage and a good swing speed, but what really makes it stand out is its wide swing range, which can hit and stun several enemies at the same time.

2. Axe

As Brutal As It Is Useful

This weapon is incredibly powerful and can quickly defeat enemies with just a few hits. While it’s not the fastest weapon, each swing packs a huge punch, especially when fighting other people.

Usually, a fast kick combined with a strong attack is all you need to defeat enemies. Using a Combat Stim with this combo can even destroy big robots.

The Axe appears to have a smaller area that registers hits compared to the Cricket Bat and Mace, meaning you’ll need to aim more precisely when you swing it.

You can find the Axe as loot from the executioner-style medieval enemies in Casterfell Woods.

1. Mace

The Ultimate Atom-Smasher

The two-handed Mace is easily the most powerful weapon for close combat in the game. You can find it at various locations, including Druid sites like the Castle Ruins and Speaking Caves in Casterfell Woods, and also within the Outlaw Caves in Slatten Dale.

Honestly, there’s just something incredibly fun about smashing through groups of Druids with a really good, solid medieval weapon. It’s super satisfying!

This weapon swings widely and has great reach, plus it’s incredibly powerful. With either a Combat Stim or the Kill Momentum skill active, you can often defeat enemies in a single hit.

Similar to other two-handed weapons, you can disable big robots by striking the main panel on their front.
