Battlefield 6 Downplays The Franchise’s Most Important Tradition

The latest *Battlefield* game is a big step forward for the series, addressing many of the issues fans had with *Battlefield 2042*. Early reviews are very positive, likely because the developers listened to player feedback. People are enjoying the impressive destruction, satisfying gunfights, engaging class-based gameplay, and the amount of content available. However, it’s not perfect – some players are critical of the user interface, and opinions on the maps are mixed. Personally, I think the game could benefit from a stronger focus on teamwork and relying on your squad.

For me, what always makes *Battlefield* special isn’t the vehicles, large battles, or even good sniping – though I do enjoy those things. It’s the way players work together to achieve the objectives. As someone who often finds themselves focused on winning in games like *Call of Duty*, it’s great to see teammates communicating in chat, offering encouragement to capture points or sharing strategies for defense. I thought *Battlefield 6* would really emphasize teamwork, especially since they used the phrase ‘PTFO’ (Play To Fight Off) in their marketing. But surprisingly, some of the game’s design choices seem to actually discourage that kind of cooperative play.

Battlefield 6 Prioritizes CoD Players’ Favorite Stat While Downplaying Others

A major concern among long-time Battlefield fans about the smaller maps in Battlefield 6 is that the developers seem to be focusing on attracting players who used to play Call of Duty, rather than those who’ve always loved Battlefield. While the game will soon offer more large maps, this shift in focus is noticeable in other areas too. For example, the game now prominently displays stats like kills, revives, and K/D ratio – things Battlefield players haven’t traditionally focused on, prioritizing fun and winning as a team instead. The stats page also shows preferred classes and personal bests, but surprisingly, it doesn’t track wins or losses at all.

Players of *Battlefield 6* are surprised to find that the stats page doesn’t track wins or losses, or even display a win/loss ratio. This is unusual considering how important teamwork and achieving objectives (‘PTFO’) has always been in *Battlefield* games – you’d expect wins and losses to be a key statistic. The problem extends beyond that, though. The career stats page also lacks data on important objective-based actions like capturing flags, destroying M-COMs (from Rush mode), or securing Breakthrough Zones. And to make matters worse, the in-game scoreboard is missing crucial information as well.

While playing *Battlefield 6*, players can easily check the scoreboard to track their progress. Unlike *Battlefield 2042*, which added the scoreboard later after release, it’s available from the start. When viewing the scoreboard, players will see information organized into these categories:

  • Scores
  • Kills
  • Deaths
  • Assists
  • Objectives

Players who focus on reviving teammates in *Battlefield 6* will probably notice that revives aren’t shown on the scoreboard. This is a strange decision, considering many players try to top the scoreboard by reviving a lot of people instead of getting kills – essentially playing as support medics, similar to the character in *Hacksaw Ridge*. While *Battlefield 6* does a good job of recognizing objective-based play, unlike some *Call of Duty* modes, leaving revives off the scoreboard feels inconsistent. Just like players who focus on kills want to track their score, medics should be able to easily see how many people they’ve revived, and it should be visible on the scoreboard at all times.

Because the latest Battlefield game makes it easier to revive teammates – anyone can help anyone else – it’s logical that the game’s scoring system should also reflect more revives happening.

Battlefield 6’s Lackluster PTFO Vibes Can Easily Be Fixed

The issues with the current *Battlefield 6* scoreboard and stats tracking shouldn’t be permanent problems. The developers at BF Studios have already committed to adding a lot of new content through future seasons. Simple improvements like adding a section for revives to the scoreboard and a more detailed stats page showing objective-based play and win/loss records are definitely achievable. They could even go further by including individual weapon stats, helping players identify their strengths and weaknesses. While these missing features are relatively minor, it’s hoped they’ll be addressed soon, as *Battlefield 6* should be encouraging players to focus more on team objectives rather than just individual performance.
