The first seasonal event in *Borderlands 4*, called Horrors of Kairos, will be a key indicator of how well the game supports new content after launch. This event will essentially set the standard for future seasonal experiences. While *Borderlands* games often begin with a Halloween event, Horrors of Kairos has a lot to prove, especially compared to the popular Bloody Harvest event from *Borderlands 3*. Unfortunately, it seems the event is starting at a disadvantage, as it’s missing a simple, expected Halloween addition.
During the Borderlands 4 panel at PAX Australia, a new seasonal event called Horrors of Kairos was announced. It will be available as a free update for all Borderlands 4 players from October 23rd to November 6th. They also revealed the first paid downloadable content pack, “How Rush Saved Mercenary Day,” which will be released on November 20th. While the Horrors of Kairos event promises a spooky experience, some players may wish there were more cosmetic items, specifically a unique head for each Vault Hunter.
All Features Confirmed for Borderlands 4’s Horrors of Kairos
- “Gourd Your Loins” Jack-o-Lantern head for all Vault Hunters
- “Hex Appeal” Weapon Skin
- “Murmur” Legendary Tediore Assault Rifle
- “Skully” Legendary Order Grenade
- Seasonal weather variant for World Bosses
The Horrors of Kairos event introduces two powerful new weapons to *Borderlands 4*: the Murmur assault rifle and the Skully grenade. The Murmur automatically scores critical hits on enemies below 35% health, instantly defeating weakened foes. The Skully grenade actively seeks out and launches projectiles at the nearest enemy. You can find both weapons by defeating the world bosses in *Borderlands 4*, who now appear during the new seasonal blood rain weather effect.

During the Horrors of Kairos event, players can unlock a Halloween-themed head called ‘Gourd Your Loins’ for any Vault Hunter, as well as the ‘Hex Appeal’ weapon skin. While the Jack-o’-Lantern head with a hatchet is a fun fit for the event, the game could have gone further by giving each Vault Hunter a unique seasonal cosmetic to really make the experience their own.
These cosmetics will be distributed via SHiFT codes for Borderlands 4 players to redeem.
Borderlands 4’s Horrors of Kairos Event is Missing an Obvious Cosmetic

Given Vex’s introduction as a witch-like Siren in *Borderlands 4*, she’s the perfect character for spooky-themed content. It would have been a natural fit to give her a witch hat cosmetic during a Halloween event like Horrors of Kairos, playing up her gothic style. While the Gourd Your Loins headgear is good, it feels like a missed opportunity. Instead of just one item, it would have been better to give each Vault Hunter a unique Halloween-themed headpiece – like an executioner’s hood for Amon, a mad scientist look for Harlowe, and a scarecrow theme for Rafa, alongside a witch hat for Vex.

Vex Gets the Short End of the Stick in Horrors of Kairos
Vex players are facing a double blow in the coming weeks. A significant weakening of her most powerful build, currently relying on the Infinite Bleed strategy, is coming with the October 16th patch, which will fix issues with her Bloodletter skill. To add to the frustration, fans hoping for a witch hat cosmetic during the Horrors of Kairos Halloween event won’t be getting one. Many feel this event was the ideal time to introduce the cosmetic, and it’s now uncertain if it will ever be added to the game, potentially leaving *Borderlands 4* players without it.
