Battlefield 6 Boss Criticizes EA App, Tells PC Players To Use Steam

Vince Zampella, the head of Battlefield 6, has spoken out about problems with the EA App’s launch. Many players who pre-ordered the game couldn’t play it right away due to issues with the app. Zampella even suggested some fans buy the game on Steam and request a refund through the EA App if needed.

Ever since its release on October 10th, EA’s PC launcher has been causing problems for players of *Battlefield 6*. While long wait times are normal for a popular new multiplayer game, those who purchased *Battlefield 6* through the EA App were finding they couldn’t play at all because the launcher wasn’t recognizing their ownership of the game.

Battlefield 6 Boss Urges Players to Bypass EA App and Switch to Steam

When the problems with the October 10th outage continued, Vince Zampella, the head of the Battlefield franchise and an executive at EA, used X (formerly Twitter) to connect with players and express his own disappointment. He admitted to being very upset about the service disruption and even suggested some players get a refund for the game through the EA App and buy it on Steam instead. The Steam version of Battlefield 6 doesn’t need the EA App, so it wasn’t affected by the issues EA’s servers were having.

Battlefield 6-Induced EA App Outage Took Hours to Fix

Some Steam players reported a small glitch where the game appeared as unreleased even after it launched, but this was easily fixed by starting *Battlefield 6* directly from Steam or restarting their computer. According to Vince Zampella, problems with the EA App were resolved at 9:23 PM Eastern Time, about ten hours after the game became available on October 10th.

It’s unknown if previous statements impacted how the game sold on PC platforms, but *Battlefield 6* became incredibly popular on Steam during an outage of the EA App, reaching a peak of 747,400 players at the same time. Vince Zampella, a company executive, shared that he was playing the game on Steam himself. When someone on Twitter suggested blaming former EA CEO Andrew Wilson, Zampella quickly defended him, saying Wilson was equally frustrated by the situation.

It’s not [EA CEO Andrew Wilson’s] fault, he’s just as upset as me.

Players who experienced issues logging into *Battlefield 6* when the EA App first launched are receiving compensation. Those who couldn’t log in on day one will get free XP boosts and the premium version of the game’s first battle pass, which is expected to cost around $9.99. Interestingly, players who bought the more expensive Phantom Edition of *Battlefield 6* through the EA App might not benefit, as that edition already included the battle pass. Those who switched to Steam after the outage might actually get a better deal. The battle pass will be available starting October 28th with the launch of Season 1.
