Battlefield 6 Dev Teases New Option to Make Using Portal Better

A developer working on the popular game *Battlefield 6* has hinted at an upcoming update to its Portal matchmaking system. The goal is to improve the map selection process and give players the maps they prefer. *Battlefield 6* had a very successful launch last week, becoming one of the biggest game releases of 2025, with hundreds of thousands of players diving in. On its first day, the game reached a peak of over 740,000 players on Steam alone, and this fix could make the experience even better.

Okay, so in Battlefield 6, there are tons of ways to jump into multiplayer. You can team up with friends or just go random with players from all over. They’ve got all the classic modes like Rush and Team Deathmatch, but also bigger objective-based ones like Breakthrough and Conquest, which are my favorites. Plus, there are nine different maps, which is awesome – you’ll be fighting in places like Cairo, New York, and even Tajikistan! I heard they might be adding a feature soon that lets you pick which maps you want to play, which would be a huge improvement.

DICE producer Alexia Christofi hinted at a possible new feature for *Battlefield 6* in a recent Twitter exchange. She asked two *Battlefield 6* YouTubers if they’d find a “wait to get what I want” toggle useful. This option would prevent the game from automatically placing players into matches on any available map when queue times are long, instead letting them wait until a spot opens on a map they specifically choose. Christofi confirmed the team has been considering this feature internally.

Battlefield 6 Considering “Wait for Preferred Map” Toggle

Adding a short wait time before players join a match in *Battlefield 6* could help those trying to find games with specific settings. Currently, the game tries to match players to their preferred maps, but it often focuses on getting players who have been waiting longer into a game quickly. The developers also confirmed they are working on a server browser, which will allow players to directly choose the maps and game modes they want to play.

Battlefield 6 has been a massive hit, exceeding all initial predictions. It earned an impressive $100 million and sold over 1.8 million copies within a single day of its highly awaited release. The game proved so popular that it caused problems with EA’s app, leading franchise head Vince Zampella to recommend players purchase the game on Steam instead. Battlefield 6 is set to be one of the year’s biggest game launches.
