As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a sense of nostalgia upon hearing about Naz Aletaha’s departure from Riot Games. Having been part of the League of Legends (LoL) community since its inception, I’ve witnessed Aletaha’s journey firsthand – from a bold dream amid skepticism to filling arenas and breaking records.
Naz Aletaha, who serves as Global Head for LoL Esports at Riot Games, has recently shared on X (previously known as Twitter) her decision to leave the company after nearly 13 years. Eager to embark on a new professional journey, Naz is prepared to move forward.
In a farewell post titled “Bidding Adieu with Gratitude,” Naz Aletaha announced her departure from Riot. Despite the numerous achievements during her time there, Aletaha shared that it was difficult to leave but felt it was necessary to pursue new opportunities. Looking back, Aletaha reminisced about the early days of League of Legends esports when it was a “daring vision amidst skepticism.” Now, they have successfully filled arenas, set records, and established one of the most prominent esports communities.

Based on Strafe’s report, Aletaha joined Riot Games in 2012 as a Senior Manager for Business Development. Later, she was promoted to the role of Global Head for League of Legends Esports in 2021. Before her tenure with Riot, Aletaha worked for Activision.
While serving as the Global Esports lead for League of Legends, she achieved impressive milestones. However, the most noteworthy accomplishment was drawing in over 6.4 million spectators to watch the 2023 League of Legends world championship.
Prior to leaving, Aletaha shared her intent to utilize Riot’s sabbatical program for a brief absence, indicating a return after a few months to conclude the 14th season. Regrettably, we didn’t get to witness this occurrence as Aletaha unexpectedly announced her departure from the company instead. It will be intriguing to observe where her future travels lead her next.
Thanks to Riot’s sabbatical policy, I’m taking a well-deserved break to rejuvenate myself. It’s been an amazing ride these past 12 years with Riot Games and over 10 years on League of Legends Esports (Lolesports). Being part of this journey with everyone has been an absolute pleasure. I can’t express enough gratitude towards the Lolesports team for making it all possible.
