Why Suicide Squad: KTJL’s Final Season Should Be Huge for Arkham Fans

Why Suicide Squad: KTJL's Final Season Should Be Huge for Arkham Fans

Highlights

  • Deathstroke is set to be the final character added to Suicide Squad, bringing a satisfying conclusion to a divisive game.
  • Arkham Batman may also make a return in this last season if leaks are to believed (and given Flash’s return), remedying the disappointment fans felt with his treatment in the game.
  • The planned addition of Deathstroke and potential return of Arkham Batman could entice players to give the game a second chance, even if that happens at the very end of its life.

As a long-time Arkham series devotee, I must say that the prospect of Deathstroke joining Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is nothing short of exhilarating! After the initial disappointment and lukewarm reception, Rocksteady seems to be making amends by bringing back some beloved characters.

Clearly, it’s been apparent that the game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, developed by Rocksteady, didn’t achieve the success they had anticipated. Following its release to mixed reviews and an overwhelmingly negative response from fans, this DC Comics-inspired looter shooter has faced challenges since its debut earlier this year. There was some optimism that additional post-launch content and new playable characters might rekindle interest in the game, but so far, the alternate versions of the Joker and Mrs. Freeze have not significantly improved its standing.

However, there’s still a glimmer of optimism left for fans of the Arkham franchise. Leaked data, now officially verified with the launch of Joker and Mrs. Freeze in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, hints that a cherished character from the original series will be the fourth to join the game. Since this seems to be the final update for the game, it appears Rocksteady is aiming to end on a high note.

Deathstroke is Coming to the Final Season of Suicide Squad

Why Deathstroke is a Perfect Fit for the Suicide Squad Roster

As an ardent fan, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and nostalgia as I predict Deathstroke, hailed by some as the best and worst boss fight in the Arkham franchise, will undoubtedly join the Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League roster soon. Given the current pace of content updates, it seems we might welcome Slade into our game in December, wrapping up the game’s narrative and perhaps offering Rocksteady a fresh start for a new, hopefully more prosperous endeavor.

Slade could very well be the standout character among the DLC offerings from Rocksteady. A common complaint about the game in general was that the Squad leaned too heavily on gunplay, which seemed out of place for characters like Boomerang and King Shark who are not typically armed. However, anyone who has played Arkham Origins is aware that Slade is a skilled martial artist, but he also excels in firearm usage. This makes him an ideal fit for the fast-paced gunplay that Rocksteady opted for in their game design. This choice may have restricted the studio’s selection of additional characters, as it would look odd to see someone like Black Manta or Cheetah wielding regular guns, but it suits the world’s premier assassin perfectly.

Slade, like a select few characters, will reappear from the initial series of the show. Characters such as Joker, Mrs. Freeze, and Lawless are either being revamped as alternate versions of established characters or, in the case of Lawless, a new character exclusively for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Following Harley, Slade will be the next playable character who was part of the original storyline in the Arkham series. It’s intriguing to see how he has adapted since his humiliating defeat in Batman: Arkham Knight.

Arkham Batman Will Be Joining Deathstroke in the Final Season of Suicide Squad

In “Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League,” it’s not just Deathstroke that will pique the interest of Arkham fans. The game’s narrative has shown that the Justice League wasn’t truly killed, and the characters players thought they had defeated were actually clones. Latest revelations suggest that The Flash is still alive, hinting that Green Lantern, Superman, and Batman may also be alive in future updates. Sadly, it appears that Wonder Woman might have met a permanent end.

One of the biggest gripes fans had with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was its treatment of Arkham Batman, one of the most beloved versions of the character. The consensus was that getting shot execution-style on a bench by one of his lesser villains was not the ending many fans wanted to see. This sentiment was compounded by the unfortunate passing of the late great Kevin Conroy, which meant that this game really would be the last anyone saw of that iteration of Batman. As such, bringing Batman back should also be a satisfying moment that leaves fans with slightly less negative feelings on the game’s story.

Introducing Slade earlier could have been more crucial in attempting to revitalize the title, but if the last update includes Deathstroke and a potential comeback for Batman from Arkham, fans may feel inclined to re-download the game.
