Highlights

  • The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC offers new regions, weapons, and spells for Elden Ring players to explore and discover.

As a seasoned Elden Ring adventurer, I can’t help but feel a sense of camaraderie when it comes to guiding fellow Tarnished through this enchanting yet treacherous world. Today, we embark on a journey that takes us from the shadowy corners of the Shadow Keep to the lofty heights of Jagged Peak, and deep into the Cathedral of Manus Metyr.

Upon the launch of the “Shadow of the Erdtree” expansion pack, FromSoftware expanded the world of the Lands Between substantially, offering content that could practically stand alone as a sequel to “Elden Ring”. This expansive update introduces a whole new realm ripe for exploration, both deep and wide. Buried within are countless weapons, spells, and hidden secrets, eagerly awaiting adventurous players to uncover them.

As a dedicated gamer, I can’t help but appreciate how Shadow of the Erdtree skillfully expands upon the rich and enigmatic narrative that the base game established. It’s like a treasure hunt where clues come in the form of cryptic item descriptions, subtle environmental hints, and characters who are chatty but never seem to spill the beans fully. Fans like me have grown accustomed to piecing together the story ourselves, and it’s evident nowhere more so than in the quests within Elden Ring. However, for those eager explorers among us, here are some of the most rewarding side quests worth seeking out – trust me, the prizes are definitely worth the effort.

5 Moore

Mild-Mannered Merchant Just Wants Some Friends

Side Quests Players Should Not Skip In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
  • Complete to obtain Forager Cookbooks and Moore’s equipment.

Initially, players may meet Moore outside Belurat’s Tower Settlement in the Shadow Lands. He’s a kind-hearted, quiet individual who mainly deals goods and cares for his companions. To start his mission, all you need to do is locate these companions and retrieve the Forager Cookbooks from them – quite straightforward. However, keep in mind that these companions will appear as the terrifying Kindred of Rot enemies from the original game, and Moore may attack the player if any of these companions are harmed.

As a seasoned gamer, I’ve managed to gather the books, the elusive Black Syrup, and now I’m on the hunt for Thiollier. Once that’s done, I need to chat with Moore again, following the disruption of Miquella’s Charm. Here’s where things get interesting – at this juncture, the choices I make will shape the story’s outcome. To bag all the loot, like Moore’s armor set and that massive Verdigris Shield, it’s suggested to let him invade post-Enir-Ilim events.

4 Sir Ansbach

A Reliable Knight Till The Very End

Side Quests Players Should Not Skip In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
  • Complete to obtain 2 weapons, 2 armor sets and an Incantation.

Initially, you meet a retired knight commander wearing an unusual hat at the Main Gate Cross, a place known as Grace. Later in your quest, he interacts with you. After breaking Miquella’s Charm, find Sir Ansbach first at his initial spot and later in the Shadow Keep on the First Floor of the Storehouse. He will request the Secret Rite Scroll; give it to him and proceed with your journey through the Shadows for now.

After finishing a few more tasks in Needle Knight Leda’s quest, you’ll find a summon sign at Shadow Keep Storehouse waiting for you. Once that objective is met, prepare for a fight against Miquella’s followers. Successfully call Sir Ansbach to aid you during this battle. Talk to both him and Thiollier post-fight to gain the ability to summon them for the final showdown. Defeat them in this encounter, and as a reward, collect their weapons, armor sets, and an Incantation.

3 Hornsent

A Man On A Mission For Vengeance

  • Complete to obtain an Ash of War, a weapon and an armor set.

At the Three-Path Cross site of grace, you may come across Hornsent, an enigmatic and retributive warrior. Speak to him there, and after defeating the Divine Beast Dancing Lion and acquiring some tantalizing Scorpion Stew, you can find him again at the Highroad Cross site of grace. He’ll eagerly consume the stew once offered. Following this, Hornsent will be accessible as a summon to aid in your battle against the Golden Hippopotamus near the Shadow Keep Main Gate.

1. Return to the Highroad Cross site called Grace, and converse with Needle Knight Leda there. She will query if she should pursue Thiollier or Hornsent, but regardless of your decision, she’ll always go after Hornsent. This will cause two summon signs to appear at Shadow Keep. Select the golden summon sign to assist Hornsent in order to acquire Ash of War: Swift Slash and Leda’s Rune. Then, call him for assistance in defeating Messmer, the Impaler. By engaging with all his dialogue during this battle, he will invade you at the Church of the Bud, Main Entrance. After defeating him, he’ll drop the Falx weapon, his armor set, and a soiled loincloth (quite an unusual reward).

2 Igon

Give A Dragon Slayer A Helping Hand

  • Complete to obtain his greatbow, armor set and Bell Bearing.

As you journey westward from the Pillar Path Waypoint, you’ll come across a man named Igon who is in distress over a dragon. Listen to his cries before you actually see him. Speak with him at this location before taking down your first Jagged Peak Drake and finding the Grand Alter of Dragon Communion. After defeating two more Jagged Peak Drakes, return to Igon to receive Igon’s Furled Finger as a reward.

In my gaming journey, I’ll soon encounter a foe reminiscent of Lansseax from the original game – Ancient Dragin Senessax. To reach him, ascend through the northern exit, following the path of slain dragons that leads to Jagged Peak. Leveraging spiritsprings for added height, I’ll eventually find myself squeezed into a narrow cave entrance. There, I’ll meet Bayle the Dread. Somewhere within this arena, Igon’s summon sign will appear, and he’ll deliver some of the most memorable lines in the game. Upon defeating the menacing dragon, I’ll retrace my steps down the mountain, gathering Igon’s armor set, his powerful greatbow, and his Bell Bearing along the way.

1 Count Ymir, High Priest

Uncover The Secrets Behind The Fingers

Side Quests Players Should Not Skip In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree
  • Complete to obtain the Maternal Staff, an armor set and a Bell Bearing.

When the Tarnished descends into the gloomy Cathedral of Manus Metyr, they can converse with Count Ymir. Afterward, players should search for and toll the bell in Rhia’s Finger Ruins. Following this task, return to Count Ymir to receive the Map of the Second Ruins and proceed towards Scaduview. Additionally, there’s a bell to be rung in Dheo’s Finger Ruins, as well as acquiring the Map of the Third Ruins from Count Ymir.

1. Proceed through the Finger Ruins of Miyr, find the last bell, then encounter Metyr, the Mother of Fingers. Following this, travel back to Manus Metyr’s Cathedral where you’ll face off against Jolan, the Swordhand of Night, and Count Ymir, High Priest. Defeat them both to obtain the High Priest set, Maternal Staff, and Ymir’s Bell Bearing. Finally, locate the Cherishing Fingers item in the graveyard to finish the quest completely.
