Microsoft’s CEO Revealed How Impactful the Fallout TV Show Was

As a lifelong gamer and Fallout enthusiast, I can’t help but be absolutely thrilled by the recent surge of interest in this beloved franchise. Having grown up playing Fallout 3 on my trusty old Xbox 360, I never would have imagined that the series would reach such heights, especially with a gap of several years between games.

In a recent financial briefing, Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, spent a considerable amount of time discussing the company’s achievements during the past quarter. He specifically mentioned the Fallout franchise, explaining how the debut of its television series on Amazon Prime Video significantly boosted game player numbers, as evidenced by a dramatic increase in the number of players following the launch of the show’s first season.

Big Numbers

During a conversation with investors and journalists, Nadella mentioned that Fallout is currently the second most-streamed Prime Video series of all time. This information was shared by Amazon soon after the show’s release in April 2024.

Additionally, he pointed out that the number of hours played for Fallout games on Xbox Game Pass significantly increased quarter-over-quarter, increasing fivefold. This surge was due to millions of new players joining the ecosystem. Games like Fallout 76 saw unprecedented growth, reaching record highs across all platforms as an influx of players, more than ever before, delved into the world of Fallout.

Following the debut of the Fallout TV series, Bethesda Game Studios rolled out a highly anticipated next-generation upgrade for Fallout 4 and published an unprecedented update for Fallout 76, attracting over half a million new players.

It’s quite impressive that they’re still delivering quality games, given it might be another half a decade before we see a new release from this franchise.
