In Elden Ring, players enjoy an array of character builds and fighting styles, offering them numerous strategies for engaging in battle. However, one element that has been absent from the game so far is a Perfect Block system. Remarkably, Shadow of the Erdtree delivers once more, enriching the game’s sophisticated combat system with this highly-anticipated mechanic.

This guide will walk you through obtaining the Perfect Block Crystal Tear, explaining its use, and providing strategies for mastering the latest Spontaneous Guard system in ‘Elden Ring’.
The Deflecting Hardtear Unlocks The Perfect Block Mechanic

If not, proceed to the Three-Path Cross Site of Grace located northwest of the Scorched Ruin instead.
In Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, I encountered the formidable Hardtear Boss, the first of the Furnace Golems. To my relief, the prize for conquering this colossal adversary is the only one that’s genuinely worth the effort invested in its defeat.
Though it is not a good idea to go up against this skyscraper-sized enemy early in the DLC, it is surprisingly easy to knock it down and deal Critical Hits directly to its face. As long as you are able to jump over its stomp attacks, dodge its swipes and kicks, and don’t get hit by fireballs raining down from the sky from time to time, you should be able to slowly whittle down its HP by attacking its legs.
To defeat this specific Furnace Golem, you can try attacking its legs, but not every Furnace Golem shares this vulnerability. Once you’ve weakened it by breaking its Poise three times, it will fall to the ground for about ten seconds, giving you ample time to maneuver around its massive body and reach its face plate.
- Melee builds can use extremely heavy Colossal weapons, and other high-Poise damage weapons, to break its legs pretty quickly.
- Spellcasters should watch out for the Golem’s attacks while they target its face, which will deal more damage than attacking its legs, but can be harder to hit.
After losing a battle, the Furnace Golem may drop the Deflecting Hardtear item. You can insert this item into your Flask of Wondrous Physick during your next visit to a Site of Grace.
