Highly-requested MW3 PC Game Pass icon fix makes cheaters easier to spot

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but appreciate the swift action taken by Activision to address the confusing icon issue that arose post the MW3 Game Pass launch on July 24. The spike in cheater reports and the subsequent confusion over who we were actually battling against was indeed troubling.

As a dedicated player, I’m thrilled to share that Activision has addressed the problem where PC users were mistakenly displayed as Xbox console players following the release of Modern Warfare 3 on Game Pass. They’ve rolled out an update to rectify this issue, ensuring a smoother gaming experience for all!

Since the launch of Game Pass on July 24th, there’s been a significant increase in cheating incidents reported in MW3 and Warzone. To add to the problem, players using PC Game Pass are appearing with an Xbox console symbol.

Many found themselves puzzled because they assumed they were competing against console gamers, only to discover they were battling PC Game Pass users, some of whom use a mouse and keyboard. This camouflage made hackers less conspicuous, prompting the developers to swiftly act by updating their detection system in response.

By July 30th, Activision has rolled out a fix for the problem, and they’ve assured us that PC gamers using Game Pass will now appear correctly, indicated by the appropriate icon.

In Modern Warfare 3 PC Game Pass, players now appear with a common PC symbol, providing clarity about the gaming platform they are utilizing. This also indicates whether they’re opting for a controller or preferring the keyboard and mouse setup.

The difference in these inputs when it comes to gameplay can be drastic, so mouse and keyboard players showing up as Xbox users caused a lot of uncertainty.

Activision assures users that the RICOCHET system can detect a user’s gaming platform, irrespective of their icon, but some gamers believe that a recent bug has led to an uptick in cheaters within the game.

Following the resolution of the issue, players of Warzone and MW3 can anticipate a smoother gaming experience, given that Activision has successfully shut down two additional significant cheat services post their lawsuit against EngineOwning.
