Elden Ring: All Hippopotamus Locations In Shadow Of The Erdtree

As an old-timer adventurer who’s seen my fair share of strange creatures and treacherous lands, I must say, Elden Ring’s hippopotamuses in Shadow of the Erdtree have left quite an impression. These colossal beasts are a sight to behold, reminding me of the days when I had to deal with those pesky Moby-Dicks in the Mobius Strip Sea!

In the captivating world of Elden Ring’s Lands Between, I’ve encountered a multitude of peculiar and formidable creatures. However, nothing quite prepares you for the colossal hippos lurking in the Realm of Shadow. These gargantuan beasts are usually spotted near smaller water bodies, and slaying them rewards the precious Scadutree Fragments.

In the game “Shadow of the Erdtree,” Scadutree Fragments play a significant role in boosting your character’s power, with a total of 50 fragments to be found. Remarkably, six of these fragments can be obtained from the enormous hippos roaming around. There are four standard hippopotamuses and one Golden Hippopotamus main boss within the expansion. Here are their specific locations.

Standard Hippopotamus In Charo’s Hidden Grave

A hippopotamus is stationed west of Charo’s Concealed Burial Ground of Mercy, where it guards a water body. Fortunately, you won’t encounter any other adversaries in the vicinity, making it easier to concentrate on this hippo. Defeating this hippopotamus yields one Scadutree Fragment.

To get to Charo’s Secret Tomb, you should initially make your way through the Dragon’s Den and conquer the Ancient Dragon Warrior. Upon leaving the Dragon’s Den, head southward from the Jagged Peak to find the Great Altar of Dragon Unity, then travel west over the collapsed, gigantic dragon to arrive at Charo’s Secret Grave.

Golden Hippopotamus Boss In Shadow Keep

In the game ‘Shadow of the Erdtree’, there’s a unique enemy, the Golden Hippo, that stands as your first challenge guarding the entrance to the Shadow Keep. This hippo is bigger than its ordinary counterparts and has abilities derived from the Crucible. If you manage to defeat this Golden Hippo, you’ll be rewarded with two Scadutree Fragments and a special item.

To get to the Shadow Keep, you have two options: either defeat Castle Ensis or find a shortcut involving a spirit spring that leads directly to Scadu Altus. Start your adventure from the Highway Cross Site of Grace and travel north until you come across the main entrance of Shadow Keep. Upon reaching the top via the elevator, you’ll arrive at the Shadow Keep Main Gate Site of Grace. Then, walk through the foggy barrier to confront the beast.

Two Standard Hippopotamus Near Recluses’ River

You’ll discover two additional hippos not far from the “Recluses’ River Downstream Site of Grace,” specifically near the massive water body at the foot of the waterfall. Both these hippos are often seen patrolling the area. Overcoming both of them will net you a Scadutree Fragment each as a reward.

To locate the two hippos, follow this path: Enter Shadow Keep, uncover the concealed staircase that takes you to Castle Watering Hole’s Site of Grace. From there, travel southwards along the river until you reach the Recluses’ River Downstream Site of Grace. Proceed cautiously, using the tombstones as steps to descend from the waterfall’s base. Once at the bottom, head towards the southeast water body to find the hippos patrolling. To deal with only one hippo at a time, sneak up on one of them.

Standard Hippopotamus In Ancient Ruins Of Rauh

In the ancient ruins of Rauh, northwest of the Minor Viaduct Tower Site of Grace, you’ll find the last hippopotamus. This hippo resides near a small water source. Upon defeating it, you’ll acquire a Scadutree Fragment as a drop.

1. To get to the Viaduct Minor Tower Site of Grace, make your way through the Shadow Keep and uncover the West Rampart Site of Grace as your destination. Then, depart from there and travel west across the long bridge until you locate the elevator leading up to the Viaduct Minor Tower Site of Grace.
