As a longtime fan of the Harry Potter franchise, I must say that Avalanche Software has truly outdone themselves with Hogwarts Legacy. The side quests they’ve added, particularly Minding Your Own Business or Haunted Hogsmeade as it’s more fondly known, have brought a new level of immersion to the game that rivals even main quests.
In the game Hogwarts Legacy, developed by Avalanche Software, there are numerous engaging side quests added. Some of these side quests are so well-crafted that they can rival the main quests. Expanding Harry Potter’s magical universe in this way is just one aspect that the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy should consider implementing. By staying committed to this, fans will continue to be captivated by the adventure and lore as much as they are by advancing the campaign.
A specific adventure, titled “Minding Your Own Business,” gained significant attention. Not just well-crafted, this game transports players to a hauntingly designed “Haunted Hogsmeade,” filled with mind-bending magic, tense combat sequences, and numerous other engaging elements. What adds to its appeal, though it’s somewhat unfortunate, is that it was exclusive to the PlayStation 5 for over a year after its release. Given the exceptional quality of the Haunted Hogsmeade quest in “Hogwarts Legacy,” it’s evident that future installments, such as Hogwarts Legacy 2, should emulate these qualities, while avoiding console exclusivity issues.
Hogwarts Legacy 2 Should Shed the Shadow of Console-Exclusivity for Must-Play Quests Like Haunted Hogsmeade
In the game Hogwarts Legacy, the adventure known as Minding Your Own Business, or more commonly Haunted Hogsmeade, centers on Penny, a house-elf, Cassandra Mason, an innkeeper, and Fastidio, another poltergeist. The dialogue and voice acting are particularly noteworthy in this quest. As Cassandra portrays a cunning scammer disguised as a helpless landlady, Penny is her reluctant accomplice, and Fastidio is a jovial yet potent spirit. This storyline offers elements of dishonesty, empathy, rage, and many other emotions. Throughout the journey, the protagonist encounters numerous puzzles to solve while trying to grasp the intricate space-bending magic and the unsettling atmosphere created by the eerie lighting. Remarkably, there’s even tough combat to conquer as well.
In the game Hogwarts Legacy, there are numerous compelling side missions to experience, with Haunted Hogsmeade being just one example. For the sequel, Hogwarts Legacy 2, it’s crucial to expand upon the world-building, deepen the narrative, and showcase even more captivating aspects of the Wizarding World’s magical elements. While players have already seen a good portion of Hogwarts, there are still plenty of secrets waiting to be uncovered – Salazar Slytherin’s Chamber of Secrets is one such mystery. Additionally, adding more non-player characters (NPCs) with interactive capabilities and an abundance of side missions would greatly enhance the gameplay experience. It has been speculated that a Morality system, initially planned for the game, was removed during development based on discovered cut content. Therefore, side quests that have significant consequences would be highly effective in the final product.
Considering these points, Avalanche Software might find it beneficial to draw inspiration from Haunted Hogsmeade when designing lengthy quests for Hogwarts Legacy 2. While the shop itself may not hold significant value over time and owning it doesn’t yield additional benefits, the concept is important. In essence, focusing solely on main quests is no longer sufficient.
Why Hogwarts Legacy 2 Needs to Move Away From Console-Exclusivity
In June 2024, I got my hands on the “Minding Your Own Business” quest, also known as the “Haunted Hogsmeade,” through an update for Hogwarts Legacy. This update didn’t just include this exciting new mission, but also some cool cosmetic packs, a recipe for the elusive Felix Felicis potion, an Onyx Hippogriff mount, and even content that was previously exclusive! To top it all off, they threw in a surprising Photo mode feature that really caught everyone’s eye.
Players expressing varying viewpoints found the exclusivity of the Hogwarts Legacy side quest on PS5 particularly frustrating, especially considering they had splurged on the Deluxe Edition. The most contentious aspect was the Haunted Hogsmeade quest. This quest offers a unique experience distinct from other side quests and grants players the opportunity to own a shop in the Hogsmeade village, which boosts their Galleon trade value slightly. While it doesn’t significantly impact gameplay, the chance to run their own shop was something many felt they had earned.
In another instance, an event received considerable criticism. When Hogwarts Legacy was initially released, players were told that content exclusive to PS5 would be accessible on other platforms a year following the launch. However, there was an unexpected four-month delay. To prevent similar circumstances in the future for Hogwarts Legacy 2, it’s advisable for Avalanche Software and Portkey Games to abandon console exclusivity. Although iconic locations such as Salazar Slytherin’s Chamber of Secrets might not encounter this problem, providing content across all platforms appears to be the most sensible decision the developers can make.
