As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and nostalgia upon hearing the latest rumors about Obsidian Entertainment. This studio has consistently delivered some of the most captivating RPGs I’ve ever played, from Fallout: New Vegas to The Outer Worlds.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got some intriguing news to share! The Art Director on LinkedIn from Obsidian Entertainment, the team behind the upcoming first-person fantasy RPG, “Avowed,” has recently updated their profile. This could hint at another title potentially in the works from Xbox’s most active first-party studio.

Since Microsoft’s acquisition of Obsidian Entertainment in 2018, this renowned RPG studio has been seen as Microsoft’s flagship team due to the multitude of projects it has in progress simultaneously. Under Microsoft, Obsidian launched “The Outer Worlds”, which was published by Private Division initially because of a prior agreement, the widely enjoyed backyard survival game “Grounded”, and the 16th century murder mystery title “Pentiment”, which received critical acclaim. Amidst all this activity, Obsidian also had “Avowed” and a sequel to “The Outer Worlds” in various stages of development by multiple teams at once.

It appears that Obsidian Entertainment might have more upcoming projects, hinted by the updated LinkedIn profile of one employee, Daniel Cabuco, who recently joined the studio. In his resume, he lists an “unrevealed project” being developed at Obsidian. Details about this secretive unrevealed project are scarce; it could be a smaller-scale passion production like Pentiment or Grounded, but the exact nature remains a mystery.

Obsidian Might Have Another New Project In The Works

Following the increased excitement and anticipation surrounding the release of the hit Amazon series for the Fallout franchise this year, many fans have been eagerly awaiting the possibility of Obsidian being granted another opportunity to develop a new Fallout game. With Bethesda focusing on The Elder Scrolls 6 for an extended period, it’s likely that Obsidian’s work on Fallout: New Vegas, a beloved installment in the series, will be their next project. However, this potential new title could be a smaller, passion-driven project. Given that support for Grounded has recently concluded, it’s plausible that this new project could stem from the same team moving onto something fresh. The fact that Obsidian is working on another new project may suggest that progress on The Outer Worlds 2 is also advancing well; if Outer Worlds 2 development was lagging, those freed-up developers would likely be assigned to assist the Outer Worlds 2 team instead of starting a new project.

As a long-time fan of Obsidian Entertainment and their captivating RPGs, I can say with certainty that the anticipation for their next project is palpable within our gaming community. With my years of experience in following the development cycles of these games, I am well aware that patience is often required when it comes to AAA titles from such a talented studio. The rumors of a potential larger scale game from Obsidian have me eagerly waiting for any official announcements, knowing full well that they currently have two major projects in the works.
