Pokemon Legends Z-A Best Early Team Comp

Pokemon Legends: Z-A offers a wide variety of Pokemon to catch and train, but a few stand out as particularly powerful. These top-tier Pokemon can help players quickly climb from Rank Z to Rank A in the A-Z Royale Battles. To dominate those battles, it’s crucial to build a strong team with the best possible Pokemon as soon as possible.

This guide will help Pokémon players catch and train strong Pokémon early in the game, giving them a leg up in Lumiose City battles. We’ll cover a surprisingly powerful Electric-type Pokémon that’s become a strong contender with its Mega Evolution, as well as a tricky-to-find group of monkeys that can really boost your early gameplay.

Mareep

You can find Mareep fairly easily in the first Wild Area you visit during the game’s initial quests. While some players might not think much of this Electric-type Pokémon from Generation 2, it’s worth considering – Mareep evolves into Ampharos, which is one of the strongest Electric Pokémon in Legends Z-A. Ampharos can be built in many different ways to focus on Special Attack, making it a powerful threat around level 30 (when it evolves from Flaffy). Mareep is a good addition to any team, no matter which starter Pokémon you choose.

Okay, so as a huge Ampharos fan, let me tell you about what makes it awesome in the late game! It can Mega Evolve into Mega Ampharos, which is seriously cool – it becomes an Electric *and* Dragon type! Its stats go up to a total of 610, split between 90 HP, 95 Attack, 105 Defense, a whopping 165 Special Attack, 105 Special Defense, and 45 Speed. It’s not the fastest or most powerful Mega out there, but it’s a really strong Electric-type thanks to that Dragon typing. And get this – it learns Cotton Guard, which is great for dealing with physical attackers, and Hidden Power! Hidden Power can be Water-type when it’s not Mega Evolved, or Grass-type *as* Mega Ampharos, giving it amazing coverage. Basically, with the right training, you can really dish out the damage and hit a lot of different types of Pokemon for super effective hits!

Eevee

Eevee is incredibly adaptable in Pokemon Legends Z-A, making it a great Pokemon to train from the start, even without a new evolution. Many players are wondering where to find it, and the answer might surprise you – it’s likely closer than you think!

To find Eevee, head to the Vernal Pokemon Center near Wild Area 1. If you fast travel, walk down the alley to your right. Follow the fence around the Pokemon Battle Cage, and you’ll find some rocks you can break with Rock Smash. This opens up a small park with a canal. Look for a patch of green grass ahead – a Level 14 Eevee wanders around there. Sneak up to it by entering Stealth Mode and quickly throw a Quick Ball before it notices you and runs away.

Dratini

Dratini is a well-known Pokémon, famous for evolving into the incredibly strong Dragonite. Dragonite has recently become one of the best Pokémon in competitive battles thanks to its Mega Evolution finally being available after a long wait. Players can actually find and catch Dratini relatively early in the game by visiting Restaurant Le Nah, which is located in the southeastern part of Lumiose City, close to Vert Sector 6.

When you arrive, stand at the door and look at the building on your left. You’ll see a ladder leading to a rooftop. If you zoom in on the building across from you (which is actually the Restaurant’s rooftop), you can find Dratini. To get there, sprint by pressing B and then roll with Y when you reach the edge. A powerful Alpha Dratini can even appear here, which is great because it has special abilities and higher stats than a normal Dratini, plus it can grow to be very large. Catching regular Dratini is tricky – you’ll need to be stealthy, save often, use a Quick Ball, and have a bit of luck. But if you manage to catch one early in the game, you’ll be well-equipped for everything to come.

Riolu

A popular Pokémon, Riolu, is fairly easy to find early in the game (around level 20). Head to the Cafe Soleil area near South Boulevard and look for a ladder around the building. Climbing the ladder leads to a small terrace where you can battle and catch an Alpha Riolu. Be sure to save your game before climbing – that way, if you lose the battle, you won’t lose your chance to catch it!

After you get a Riolu, quickly take it to a cafe or restaurant and share a tea or coffee with it. After just a couple of times, Riolu will become close enough to you to evolve into Lucario, a powerful Fighting and Steel-type Pokémon known for its strong punches. Lucario is perfect for surprise attacks during the Z-A Royale. Plus, you can also obtain Mega Lucario, which will make your team incredibly strong and help you defeat all the trainers as you aim for the top.

Fletchling

Don’t underestimate Fletchling, a Pokémon you can find early in Wild Zone 1! It evolves into Fletchinder, and then into the impressive Talonflame – a standout Pokémon from the Gen 6 games. Talonflame is incredibly fast and packs a serious punch, with access to powerful attacks like Flare Blitz, Brave Bird, and Steel Wing. These physical attacks will be particularly strong in *Legends Z-A*.

Talonflame is a strong Pokémon throughout most of a battle, capable of performing well from the beginning to the end. While it might not be as strong as Pokémon like Dragonite, Tyranitar, or Goodra, a skilled trainer can use Talonflame to dominate opponents, acting like a blazing force on the battlefield.

Pansage, Pansear, Panpour

Okay, so the Monkey Trio – Pansear, Pansage, and Panpour – are back in *Pokemon Legends Z-A*! I’ve been spotting them all over Lumiose City – running around on rooftops and chilling in the trees in the parks. Honestly, they’re a great addition to any team, especially if you want some extra options alongside your starter Pokemon. You can evolve them into Simisear, Simisage, and Simipour using Evolution Stones, which is pretty cool.

These Pokémon can learn many moves that match their type, making them helpful throughout the first half of the game. As battles become more challenging, players will need to build careful teams to avoid becoming easy targets for opponents.
