Former Destiny 2 Dev Shares Exciting Tease About Next Raid

Highlights

  • Bungie laid off over 200 staffers in late July 2024.
  • One of the studio’s newly laid off employees revealed that a new Destiny 2 raid is in the works and was “looking really good.”
  • The staffer did not clarify whether they were referring to a brand-new raid or a reprisal.

As a dedicated Destiny 2 player for years now, I have witnessed the highs and lows of this epic journey through the cosmos. The recent news about Bungie’s layoffs left me feeling a pang of sadness, knowing that some of the talented individuals behind my favorite game are no longer with us.

A new raid for the game “Destiny 2” is currently being developed, but a former employee of its creator, Bungie, has mentioned that things seemed to be going well until recently. This insight was shared during the ex-employee’s reflection on their time with the company responsible for producing “Destiny 2,” which ended prematurely for them.

On July 31st, Bungie disclosed that they would be letting go of around 220 employees. This decision represents a reduction of about 17% in the company’s overall staff, with some employees also being transferred to different studios under the PlayStation group.

Former Destiny 2 Tester Teases the Game’s Next Raid

Among the employees impacted by the job reductions at Bungie is Diana Madeline Voyer, a member of the Destiny 2 testing squad. In late July, Voyer shared on Twitter that she had no prior knowledge of the upcoming layoffs at Bungie until a friend sent her the company’s tweet announcing them and asked if she was affected. Indeed, she was. Voyer voiced her dismay about the situation on social media, which triggered curiosity from Destiny 2 fans regarding the game’s ongoing development. Although Voyer stated that she couldn’t breach her non-disclosure agreement by sharing specific details, she hinted that the next raid for the shooter was shaping up nicely.

As a dedicated fan of Destiny 2, I firmly believe that those who appreciate its raid and dungeon content should stick with the game. In fact, I’m so eager to delve into the upcoming raids that I plan to play the next one on day one. This is just one example of how thrilled I am about the future of Destiny 2, as demonstrated by the raid teaser recently shared and my own anticipation.

She didn’t specify if her “next raid” comment was about a fresh adventure or a repeat, as Bungie’s pattern for the Destiny 2 game development has been switching between raids, dungeons, reprisals, and then more dungeons. The confirmed new raid from the The Final Shape expansion, Salvation’s Edge, was already released on June 7. At this point, Bungie hasn’t officially announced any additional raids for the game. However, it’s still anticipated that two dungeons will be part of the roadmap for The Final Shape.

In a change from their previous approach, Destiny 2 has moved away from the seasonal format and instead opted for episodic content. Instead of four seasons each year, Bungie now plans to produce three episodes annually, with each episode consisting of three acts. These acts are scheduled to be released every six weeks. The second act of Episode Echoes was launched on July 16, with the third act set to release on August 27.
