Plus Moves are a brand new feature in *Pokémon Legends: Z-A*, letting trainers enhance their Pokémon’s attacks during battles. Because the game doesn’t explain them very well, players might be unsure how to use them.
This guide explains everything about Plus Moves in *PLZA*. You’ll learn what they are, how to spot them during a battle, and how to use them to your advantage. Here’s a simple overview.
What Are Plus Moves in Pokemon Legends: Z-A
Plus Moves are stronger versions of regular moves available to all Pokemon in Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
- For physical and special attack moves, this means the amount of damage they deal is increased.
- For status-inducing moves (e.g., Toxic), this means the duration of their effect on the battlefield is increased.
- For area-of-effect moves (e.g., Surf), this means their AoE is larger in addition to their damage being increased.

Plus Moves are marked by a small plus sign inside a circle, which you’ll see next to the move’s name when you check a Pokémon’s stats.
Plus Moves use Mega Power. Every time you perform a Plus Move, it takes away one chunk of Mega Power, which is displayed at the bottom right of your screen.
When a Pokémon Mega Evolves, all of its attacks automatically become Plus Moves while it stays in that form, even if it didn’t know them as Plus Moves before Mega Evolving.
Okay, so I finally figured out how to get the Plus Move working! You don’t unlock it right away. You actually need to beat the Rogue Mega Absol in Main Mission 09 to get the Mega Ring, *then* the Plus Move becomes available. It took me a while to realize that!
How to Learn Plus Moves in Pokemon Legends: Z-A

There are two ways to learn Plus Moves:
- Level Up
- Seeds of Mastery
Level Up

Pokémon moves learned by leveling up will automatically become more powerful, or “Plus Moves,” as the Pokémon gains experience. For instance, if a Pokémon learns a move at level 30, it won’t be a Plus Move right away. But as the Pokémon continues to level up, that move will eventually become a Plus Move. It usually takes between 3 and 10 levels for a regular move to upgrade to its Plus Move version.
Seeds of Mastery

Pokemon moves learned from Technical Machines (TMs) don’t automatically become Plus Moves as your Pokemon gains levels. To turn a TM move into a Plus Move, you need to give Seeds of Mastery to Josee at the Justice Dojo. You can find the Justice Dojo east of the Prism Tower in the center of Lumiose City, but you must first reach Rank E.
You can get Mastery Seeds primarily by beating or catching Alpha Pokémon in the PLZA. The best way to collect them is to move between different Wild Zones, defeating Alpha Pokémon as they appear, which causes new ones to spawn.
How to Use Plus Moves in Pokemon Legends Z-A

To use a special move with a Pokémon that hasn’t Mega Evolved, press the + button on your Nintendo Switch while selecting your target. When a move is ready, its icon will change. Using the move will cost a quarter of your Mega Power, which is displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen.
Mega Power fuels Mega Evolution and is shared by all your Pokémon. When you Mega Evolve a Pokémon, using a Plus Move with another Pokémon will shorten the time your first Pokémon stays Mega Evolved. However, using a regular move with a Pokémon that isn’t Mega Evolved will restore the Mega Power, letting you manage the duration effectively if you plan carefully.
