While NZXT might not be a familiar name in the realm of PC peripherals, it’s renowned for its high-quality PC cases, components, and hardware. What you may not know is that they offer an impressive assortment of gaming accessories, spanning from audio devices to keyboards. Now I do – and I just got to test their top-tier keyboard!
In crafting my NZXT Function 2 review, I discovered an unexpected affection for this seemingly modest yet surprisingly potent and competent keyboard. Delve deeper to uncover all aspects of this adaptable, mid-range, and full-sized Function 2 keyboard.
Light Touch, Heavy Potential
The NZXT Function 2 keyboard initially catches the eye, especially in its white variant. However, upon connection, it truly shines. The RGB lighting beneath the swift keys and switches is vivid and can be personalized using the NZXT CAM software, making it ideal for a gamer who appreciates vibrant illumination.
Regarding swift keyboard keys, NZXT has skillfully combined custom optical switches with linear motion in their Function 2 model. These keys are exceptionally lightweight, yet they offer adjustability for those who prefer a slightly heavier feel. Notably, these keys are also hot-swappable, coming with additional switches to experiment with alternative settings right out of the box.
On certain infrequent instances, I’ve noticed that when I gently tap a key, it seems to register multiple times, yet this minor glitch doesn’t bother me much.
Using this keyboard is an absolute joy for typing – I’m utilizing it at this moment to compose my NZXT Function 2 review. It boasts a relatively quiet operation, the double-shot PBT keycaps offer a pleasant tactile experience, and its impressive 8,000 Hz polling rate guarantees swift and dependable input responses.
Feeling Practical
The device operates under its title and embodies functionality by design. On the Function Keyboard 2, all the features I desire are included, though some of the placement choices might seem peculiar. For example, there’s a Windows lock key, a mute button, and an RGB control key situated on the left side of the keyboard, which causes me to inadvertently press them when adjusting my position for comfort.
As a gamer, I’ve grown accustomed to having my volume roller in the top-right corner of my keyboard, a common placement among competing products. However, this particular board only has status lights and an NZXT flash there instead. The media controls, unfortunately, are shared with some keys like PrtSc, ScrLk, and Pause, which seems less intuitive to me.
As an enthusiastic user, I must commend the NZXT Function 2 for its exceptional wrist rest feature. Unlike other keyboard brands that often come with cushioned or faux leather wrist rests, this one stands out. It connects seamlessly using magnetic forces and sports a tough, grippy rubber surface. This durable design offers a robust alternative to the typical plastic and soft-touch wrist rests you find on Razer keyboards, for instance.
Is The NZXT Function 2 Good?
As a dedicated professional who spends countless hours at my computer, I find the TKL keyboard to be an indispensable tool for my work. The tactile feedback and efficient key layout make typing a breeze, allowing me to focus on the task at hand without distractions. However, if you have ample space on your desk and prefer a more traditional keyboard layout, this device might still appeal to you.
Currently, it costs approximately £139.99 to purchase the NZXT Function 2 keyboard, which is less expensive than keyboards like the Razer Deathstalker, Huntsman, Logitech G815, G713, and SteelSeries Apex Pro, giving you a cost advantage over these models.
In my view, if you’re able to acquire it through a purchase, I believe it’s definitely valuable. However, if you’re not bothered by the higher price tag, then I can confidently say that it’s something I would endorse at this moment.
