As a die-hard Star Trek fan who grew up with the original series and has followed every spin-off since, I must say that Star Trek: Prodigy is a breath of fresh air in this vast galaxy of space operas. With its vibrant animation and engaging storyline, it manages to captivate both young and old audiences alike.

Star Trek is aiming to attract a younger fanbase with its 3D animated series titled Prodigy, now streaming on Netflix. The second season debuted earlier this month, and Robert Picardo, who reprised his character as The Doctor, expressed hope that Star Trek: Prodigy would be granted additional seasons.

As a passionate gamer and Star Trek fan, I’ve been eagerly following the adventures of the young aliens in “Star Trek: Prodigy.” Created by Emmy Award winners Kevin and Dan Hageman, this is the 10th series from the esteemed Star Trek franchise, debuting in 2021. With an engaging storyline that resonates with a younger audience, it’s all about a band of alien kids stumbling upon the Protostar, an abandoned starship, and uncovering the secrets of Starfleet.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Eric Picardo expressed his hopes for a third season of Star Trek: Prodigy, currently streaming on Netflix. He suggested that Netflix might consider renewing the series if they recognize its potential, citing examples like Bryan Cranston’s show Your Honor, which gained popularity after moving from television to Netflix. Picardo believes that Prodigy has similar potential and encouraged viewers to rewatch the seasons after finishing season two.

Last year during Star Trek Las Vegas, it was officially announced that Katee Sackhoff’s return to the franchise for Prodigy Season 2 was confirmed when producers screened a four-minute clip. The most exciting news of the day was Picardo’s comeback as The Doctor, and he expressed his joy that the secret had finally been revealed since he had been eagerly waiting for the public to find out. He disclosed that he completed most of his recordings for the series about two to three years prior. Regarding his return, Picardo considered it symbolic because he initially portrayed The Doctor on Voyager and now does so on Prodigy. He also mentioned that he had always envisioned his character as a professor at Starfleet Academy, guiding young Starfleet cadets.

It’s plausible that Star Trek: Prodigy Season 3 will materialize due to the global fan base it has amassed. Following its cancellation on Paramount Plus, fans rallied using the hashtag #SaveStarTrekProdigy and even flew a banner over Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon headquarters with the message “#SAVE STAR STREK PRODIGY.” These actions were successful as Netflix took up the series soon after it was dropped by Paramount Plus.
