As a long-time fan of both Overwatch and Sonic, I must say that I am absolutely thrilled by the creativity and talent showcased in this latest fan art concept. Reddit user Onframer has truly outdone themselves with their Dr. Eggman skin for Wrecking Ball – it’s a match made in heaven (or should I say, chaos?)!
A talented Overwatch 2 fan has created a Dr. Eggman skin concept for Wrecking Ball. One of Overwatch 2‘s tanks, Wrecking Ball, whose real name is Hammond, is a genetically modified hamster with an incredible intellect. Using his cleverness, the character escapes from the Horizon Lunar Colony and travels to Earth with his friend Winston.
In various Sonic series installments across games, comics, and films, the character Dr. Eggman makes frequent appearances, with Jim Carrey voicing him in certain adaptations. This character is primarily known as the main adversary of Sonic and his companions. Dr. Eggman’s objective is to build a worldwide empire, employing methods like transforming animals into robots called Badniks and constructing weapons and devices that endanger Earth’s safety. An imaginative Overwatch 2 player has successfully introduced Dr. Eggman to Blizzard’s shooter through striking fan artwork.
Reddit user Onframer posted a skin concept depicting Wrecking Ball as a character resembling Dr. Eggman. In this design, Wrecking Ball dons the distinctive colors and style of Dr. Eggman’s attire, including his red, yellow, and black outfit, round sunglasses, and orange mustache. The mecha that Wrecking Ball operates has been modified to resemble Dr. Eggman’s spaceship, complete with colors matching the villain’s ensemble. Notably, the artist added a stylized hook and cannons to the mecha, while also incorporating Dr. Eggman’s signature smile on the machine’s top surface.
Wrecking Ball and Dr. Eggman Brought Together in Neat Overwatch 2 Skin Concept
On previous occasions, Onframer’s work has garnered notice, such as when they transformed Juno into Shadow the Hedgehog in a concept art piece we’ve seen before. In this fan artwork, they creatively incorporated elements from the Sonic series like the Air Shoes and iconic golden rings, resulting in a truly inventive idea. Additionally, a fan art piece has sparked interest among Overwatch 2 enthusiasts by changing Tracer into Sonic the Hedgehog.
Although Overwatch 2 hasn’t given any signs yet of partnering with Sonic, fans are still hoping for such a collaboration, as fueled by Onframer’s fan art. It’s worth noting that Blizzard has been expanding its collaborations with the shooter game since the launch of One Punch-Man skins, most recently organizing an Overwatch 2 and Transformers crossover. Given the popularity of Sonic, it’s not unreasonable for Overwatch 2 players to keep wishing for a day when these two beloved franchises might join forces.
