Battlefield 6: L85A3 Weapon Review (& Best Builds)

The L85A3 is an assault rifle in Battlefield 6 best suited for medium to long-range combat. While it can handle close quarters, it’s most effective when engaging targets from 40 meters or further. It’s a solid choice for players who prefer to stay back and provide covering fire, offering low recoil, a decent rate of fire, and good damage, without leaving them vulnerable up close.

This guide takes a close look at the L85A3 weapon in Battlefield 6. We’ll cover everything you need to know about it, plus suggest some effective ways to customize it for optimal performance.

Is The L85A3 Any Good in Battlefield 6?

BF6 L85A3 Overview
Pros Cons
  • Accurate, low recoil
  • Good damage at ~75 meters
  • Decent in close quarters
  • High muzzle velocity
  • Slow reload speed
  • Relatively slow TTK
  • Harshly affected by bloom

The L85A3 isn’t one of the top assault rifles in Battlefield 6, mainly because it doesn’t perform as well in close-range fights as some other guns. It really shines when used in a particular way. While it’s a solid weapon, to get the most out of it compared to other ARs in Battlefield 6, you need to understand its strengths.

The L85A3 rifle has a unique firing speed that can be both helpful and a hindrance. While its 635 rounds per minute isn’t as fast as many other guns in Battlefield 6, meaning you might lose in close-quarters fights, it does make the weapon easier to control and keep aimed accurately. It’s not as weak up close as some other rifles like the SOR-556, and with skillful play or a surprise attack, the L85A3 can perform well in close-range combat.

The L85A3 is a strong weapon in medium-range combat because it’s easy to control and fires consistently. This allows it to often beat faster-firing guns like the M433 in head-to-head fights, especially from 20 meters or more. You’ll find it consistently outperforms other assault rifles due to its stability.

The L85A3 rifle performs best when you focus on getting into good positions. Try to get around your enemies and shoot them accurately from the side or behind. Don’t engage in direct confrontations unless you have solid cover. If you’re both using cover and peeking at each other, you’ll have the upper hand.

BF6 L85A3 Recoil, Bloom, and TTK

The standard L85A3 rifle performs reasonably well without any changes. The image shows a rapid, fully automatic burst of fire from 20 meters, comparing a modified rifle (right) to a standard one (left). While the standard version shows more muzzle climb (the gun lifting with each shot), it isn’t a huge difference. However, the initial recoil – the kick you feel with the very first shot – is much stronger on the standard version. This means you’ll need to adjust your aim to control that first kick when firing in short bursts without any attachments.

While the L85A3 rifle is generally accurate, it becomes very inaccurate at longer distances if you fire in bursts of more than 5 shots. For targets between 40 and 75 meters, stick to 5-round bursts. If someone is closer than that, you can usually fire your entire magazine at them.

As for TTK, the L85A3 has the following time-to-kill values:

  • >15 meters: 0.28 seconds
  • 25–75 meters: 0.37 seconds
  • 75+ meters: 0.47 seconds

When comparing these weapons, the TR-7 can eliminate a player in 0.16 seconds at 15 meters. The AK4D takes 0.46 seconds to do the same at distances greater than 75 meters. These times are based on ideal conditions – every shot hitting the chest perfectly at the weapon’s fastest firing speed – and don’t factor in bullet speed.

Best L85A3 Build in Battlefield 6

Standard Build Headshot Build
Muzzle Flash Hider/Any Suppressor Standard Suppressor
Barrel Heavy Heavy
Foregrip Ribbed Vertical/Stippled Stubby 6H64 Vertical Grip
Magazine 30-round Fast 30-round Standard
Ammo Basic Synthetic Tips
Sight Any Magnified Optic Any Magnified Optic
Sight Accessory Canted sight of choice None

The Standard Build is a versatile setup that works well in any situation. We highly recommend using the Flash Hider until you unlock a Suppressor. The Flash Hider prevents enemies from easily spotting you when you fire in Battlefield 6. Suppressors offer the same benefit, plus they also hide you from the minimap if players are 15 meters or more away.

When choosing a grip, either Vertical or Stubby grips work best. While more expensive grips can slightly reduce recoil, the difference isn’t significant in most situations. For the best recoil reduction with the L85A3, we recommend using either the Classic Vertical or Low Profile Stubby grip.

Using Synthetic Tip bullets with the Headshot build increases headshot damage from 20 to 35 within a range of 15 to 75 meters. This allows you to eliminate enemies with just three headshots, making the L85A3 incredibly fast – it can take down opponents in just 0.18 seconds.

Our tests show that the 6H64 and Classic Vertical grips don’t significantly impact how accurately you aim with the L85A3. While the game descriptions suggest these grips reduce aiming accuracy, we found the effect is minimal. Unlike some other grips that only reduce accuracy while moving, these have a small impact overall. You should still be able to hit targets at up to 75 meters with a 5-shot burst, as long as you manage the weapon’s recoil.

If you prefer a more stationary, accurate playstyle – often called ‘flank and spank’ – bipods and grip pods are excellent choices. They significantly reduce weapon recoil, especially when combined with the Support class’s Fire Support Field Spec. However, if you need to move around quickly, other foregrip options will be better.
