Destiny 2 Update Removes Controversial Edge of Fate Feature

Bungie has just released an update for Destiny 2 that makes some important changes to how the game works. They’ve removed Unstable Cores and continued to improve the often-criticized Portal. It’s clear Destiny 2 is facing challenges, as player numbers are down and many players are feeling frustrated.

Even when facing challenges, Bungie continues to improve Destiny 2. They’re actively listening to player feedback, and recent updates address specific issues the community has raised. While the Portal remains a key feature in the Edge of Fate version of Destiny 2, Bungie is experimenting with it in this latest update.

As a big Destiny 2 player, I’m really glad to see Bungie continuing to tweak the Portal experience! They’ve made some more changes with this latest update, and it sounds like they’re listening to the community. Basically, they’ve taken out a bunch of the challenge modifiers from the random pool when you use the Portal. A lot of us weren’t fans of modifiers like Match Game, Antisurge, or Volatile Shields, so it’s awesome they removed those. Hopefully, this will make jumping into older content a lot more fun and less frustrating!

Bungie has followed through on its commitment to remove Unstable Cores from Destiny 2. These cores were introduced with the Edge of Fate expansion to allow players to upgrade gear past power level 200, but they ended up being more annoying than enjoyable. Now, Glimmer and Enhancement Cores will be used instead for upgrading gear.

This update includes a partial refund of Bright Dust for players who bought armor ornaments during the first week of the Ash & Iron release, as prices were accidentally set too high. It also features several improvements, such as a significant boost to the Hunter Gunslinger’s On Your Mark ability, a fix for the Warlock’s Vortex grenade to now pull enemies instead of push them, and compatibility for the Stronghold exotic with Ergo Sum.

Alongside the update, Destiny 2’s annual Halloween event, Festival of the Lost, is now live with some new features for this year. Instead of Haunted Lost Sectors, players can now try Haunted Altars, a new 6-player activity inspired by the Moon’s Altars of Sorrows. Players who enjoy the Crucible can participate in the Red Rumble game mode, and everyone has a chance to earn new weapons and cosmetic items.
