Pokémon Legends: Z-A will feature the return of Mega Evolution, a popular mechanic from past games. Many beloved Pokémon will regain their Mega Evolved forms, and Mega Ampharos is just one example of the Pokémon making a comeback.
Mega Ampharos might not seem as exciting as other Mega Evolutions in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, but it’s likely to become a favorite once you get the guaranteed Shiny Mareep in the game.
Many players want to get Mega Ampharos right after finishing the quest that gives you a Shiny Mareep, and we’ve got a guide to help you do just that.
Where to Find Ampharosite & Get Mega Ampharos in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
You can only obtain Ampharosite by playing through the story of Pokémon Legends: Z-A – there’s no way to get Mega Ampharos through any other means.
Okay, so in Main Mission 23, you HAVE to beat this super tough Rogue Mega Ampharos. And here’s the thing – it’s the only way to get the Ampharosite! Unlike other Mega Stones, you can’t just walk into the Stone Emporium and buy it, or even trade Mega Shards for it at Quasartico Inc. You really gotta earn this one!
You also can’t trade Pokémon that are holding a Mega Stone, so you’ll have to earn Mega Ampharos the traditional way. But it’s worth the effort! Mega Ampharos is a powerful Pokémon that can really help you throughout the late stages of the game, particularly because it learns strong Ice and Dragon-type moves.
How to Defeat Rogue Mega Ampharos in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
The Rogue Mega Ampharos appearing in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is level 48 and has a unique Dragon/Electric typing. This means it’s weak against Ground, Ice, Dragon, and Fairy-type attacks.
This Pokémon is very resistant to many types of attacks, including Flying, Steel, Fire, Water, Grass, and Electric. It’s also especially vulnerable to Dragon-type attacks, so it’s best not to use a Dragon-type Pokémon against it.
Okay, so if you’re battling Rogue Mega Ampharos, definitely use Ground, Ice, or Fairy-type Pokémon! I’ve found Gardevoir is amazing for this. The best part? You can actually get Mega Gardevoir pretty early on if you use the Mystery Gift feature to unlock Mega Evolution. Plus, Gardevoir learns Moonblast, which is seriously the strongest Fairy-type attack in the game – it really packs a punch!
Other strong choices are Abomasnow, Tyranitar, Froslass, and Garchomp, all of which can Mega Evolve with the right Mega Stone. Mega Ampharos is also a good option and shouldn’t be too difficult to beat.
If you’re as into Mega Evolution as I am, you’ll want to check out guides on how to get Mega Chesnaught, Mega Delphox, Mega Charizard, and the awesome Mega Gyarados!
