Wow, World of Warcraft: Legion Remix has been absolutely amazing since it launched a couple of weeks ago! A lot of us are still enjoying the story and tackling Heroic dungeons, but the really dedicated players are already diving into the toughest challenges. It’s incredible – some people are taking advantage of the new scaling in Legion Remix and are pushing Mythic Keystone dungeons to levels over +100! It’s seriously impressive to see what’s possible.
The recent success with Legion Remix has made a clear problem obvious: tanks are currently too powerful in World of Warcraft. Many groups attempting high-level Mythic+ Keystone dungeons are mostly made up of tanks because most damage-dealing classes struggle to stay alive, and there aren’t enough healers who can also deal sufficient damage. While Blizzard has tried to fix this with some improvements, it looks like the six classes that can play as tanks will likely remain dominant for a while.

How Tanks are Dominating World of Warcraft: Legion Remix Right Now
A Chinese team—Erxi, Lhfs, Ruancool, Addhh, and Feifei—recently completed a Mythic+113 Black Rook Hold dungeon in World of Warcraft: Legion Remix after maximizing their Infinite Power. The team’s composition was unusual: three tanks (Protection Paladin, Protection Warrior, and Vengeance Demon Hunter) and two Unholy Death Knight damage dealers. No other group has matched their impressive feat, but like all top-level runs, their party didn’t include a healer.

With the recent addition of the Devourer Demon Hunter, there are now 40 different ways to play World of Warcraft, but only 6 of those focus on tanking: Blood Death Knight, Vengeance Demon Hunter, Guardian Druid, Protection Paladin, Brewmaster Monk, and Protection Warrior.
In games with extremely powerful enemies, characters often die in a single hit, making healing ineffective. Plus, healers struggle because they don’t have enough ways to deal damage, and while damage-dealing characters can perform well, they’re often too fragile to be reliable.

Fortunately, World of Warcraft recognized this issue and attempted to fix it. As part of an update for the October 21st launch of WoW: Legion Remix Phase 2, Blizzard introduced new bonuses in Mythic+ dungeons. These bonuses boost the health, damage, and healing of damage-dealers and healers, while also lessening the damage they receive.
- Gift of Eternus: Slayer – Eternus grants damage dealers 10% increased damage done, 100% increased health, and 33% decreased damage taken.
- Gift of Eternus: Savior – Eternus grants healers 10% increased damage done, 10% increased healing and absorbs, 100% increased health, and 33% decreased damage taken.
- Gift of Eternus: Protector – Eternus grants tanks 10% increased healing received from other players.
However, these changes might not be enough to solve the problem of tanks being overpowered in Legion Remix. Even though scaling has been improved, the current buffs likely won’t allow healers or damage dealers to match the survivability of tanks. It’s still too early to know the full impact on the game, but more significant adjustments may be necessary to make other classes competitive in World of Warcraft: Legion Remix.
This World of Warcraft Problem Isn’t Restricted to Legion Remix

The issues seen in Legion Remix are a more extreme version of problems that exist in World of Warcraft generally. Even in the current version of the game, strong groups can complete lower-level Mythic+ dungeons without a dedicated healer, and tanks often perform better than other classes when exploring the world or tackling solo challenges. While healers and damage dealers can sometimes be optional, tanks are always essential for the most difficult content.
With the upcoming Midnight update, World of Warcraft classes are getting significant changes. While these adjustments aim to simplify gameplay and reduce the number of abilities players need to manage, they don’t really address the imbalance between different roles. Despite any changes to how they play, tanks are still expected to be the strongest role in Midnight.

The tank role is a core part of the traditional ‘Holy Trinity’ setup in many games. From Overwatch 2 to Final Fantasy 14, games using the tank, healer (support), and damage-dealer (DPS) system consistently face challenges in balancing the tank class. World of Warcraft helped establish the Holy Trinity, and it’s likely this balancing issue will always be present in the game as long as it continues to use this system.
