Many Pokémon in Pokémon Legends: Z-A don’t evolve in the usual way, and Riolu is one of them. You’ll need to do something specific to help it evolve into Lucario.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A features many different ways for Pokémon to evolve. Some evolve with Evolution Stones or through trading, while others, like Riolu, need much more effort and specific conditions to reach their final form.
Want to evolve Riolu into Lucario fast in Pokémon Legends: Z-A? We’ve got the information you need.
How to Evolve Riolu in Pokémon Legends: Z-A
In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Riolu evolves into Lucario under specific conditions. You need to build a strong friendship with Riolu, and the evolution can only happen during the daytime.
Riolu is different from most Pokémon; it doesn’t evolve just by leveling up. It needs a strong connection with its trainer before it will transform into Lucario, so it might take some time and effort to get this powerful Pokémon on your team.
Luckily, there are multiple ways to become friends with Riolu and other Pokémon in Legends: Z-A. We’ve listed them below to help you out.
- Get a drink at a Cafe with your Pokémon.
- Hang out with your Pokémon on a bench.
- Use EXP Candies on your Pokémon.
- Level up your Pokémon.
In Pokémon Legends: Z-A, the Cafe is the fastest way to get Lucario. You only need to make about four drinks for Riolu to evolve, though there are other ways to do it if you prefer.
Can You Catch Lucario in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?
You can catch Lucario directly in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which lets you avoid evolving Riolu – but this is only available after you’ve completed the main story.
After you finish the main story, you can find Lucario in Wild Zone 20, where it appears as a regular spawn and sometimes as an Alpha Pokémon. Standard Lucario often appears on the western side of this zone, alongside Pokémon like Aggron, Hippowdon, Tepig, and Charmander.
You might also find a special Alpha Lucario in the center of Wild Zone 20, under the broken Prism Tower. However, it’s rare because it shares its spawning location with other Alpha Pokémon like Gyarados, Leafeon, Tyranitar, and Gallade.
If you’ve started the Zygarde encounter but haven’t defeated it, Alpha Pokémon won’t appear in Wild Zone 20. Zygarde will remain there, preventing their spawn. If you’ve finished the main story by defeating Lysandre, prioritize catching Zygarde to make sure Alpha Pokémon can appear in Wild Zone 20.
