In Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, players who choose the Elder Vampire path have many supernatural abilities. Beyond the typical vampire strengths like enhanced power, speed, and senses, the character Phyre can use various kinds of dark magic. However, Phyre has weakened over time and will need to recover their full power.
Bloodlines 2 is a role-playing game with simplified elements. You’ll improve your character’s abilities using experience points, and you’ll also utilize a unique blood mechanic to unlock their full potential. This guide explains how both of these systems function in the game.
How to Get New Abilities in Bloodlines 2
Bloodlines 2 uses a familiar RPG leveling system. You earn experience points (XP) by defeating enemies, finding collectibles, and finishing quests. However, instead of gaining levels, you receive skill points. These points unlock new abilities, with more powerful abilities costing more points. You can find the Abilities menu in the pause menu (accessed by pressing Escape or Start).
What’s cool about Phyre is their versatility – they can draw power from any of the vampire clans in Bloodlines 2. While you choose a starting clan for Phyre, you’re not stuck with it. As the story progresses, you’ll be able to learn skills from other clans, but first you’ll need to unlock them by using Resonant Blood to Awaken those clans.
Bloodlines 2: Resonant Blood and Awakening Abilities
To gain the abilities of other clans, you must collect Resonant Blood from people throughout Seattle. You can identify individuals with this special blood by a unique icon above their head, and they’ll be marked on your map for easy tracking.
While using Heightened Vision, you’ll see that certain people are outlined in different colors. This indicates they have inactive blood, meaning you can’t feed on them right away. To activate it, you need to connect with them through conversation and choose dialogue options that match their specific color.
- Choleric Blood (red) can be drained by angering or antagonizing humans who are glowing red.
- Sanguine Blood (pink) can be obtained by flirting with humans who are glowing pink.
- Intimidate or insult somber humans who are glowing blue to get Melancholic Blood (blue).
What you wear in Bloodlines 2 impacts how characters react to you. For instance, wearing nice clothes might make someone with a red glow try to rob you. Conversely, dressing in seductive Toreador attire and talking to someone with a blue glow can cheer them up and make their glow disappear.
Vampire Contacts

Simply earning experience and leveling up won’t unlock all skills in Bloodlines 2. To learn specific abilities, you’ll need to find and talk to each clan’s representative. You can find these characters at these locations:
- Silky (Brujah): The Dutchman
- Niko (Banu Haqim): Aurora Pawn
- Patience (Toreador): Aurora Pawn Backroom
- Fletcher (Ventrue): Makom Bar
- Mrs. Thorn (Tremere): Wake the Dead
- Onda (Lasombra): The Glacier Hotel Lobby
Okay, so after you deal with Benny in Bloodlines 2 – which happens pretty early on – you’ll start running into these new NPCs. You can chat with them, and then you get to pick which power you want to unlock using the blood you’ve collected. Just remember, unlocking the power is just the first step – you’ll still need to spend skill points to fully level up and get the most out of those abilities!
