As a die-hard survival horror enthusiast with over a decade of gaming under my belt, I must say that the recent release of 7 Days to Die version 1.0 has truly been a game changer! Having followed this title since its early access days back in 2013, it’s nothing short of miraculous to witness the sheer number of players flocking to the wasteland.

Since its 1.0 release on PC and consoles on July 25, 2024, the survival game hit 7 Days to Die has been breaking player count records left and right. Although an updated version isn’t yet available on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, the full-fledged launch of this game continues to attract a massive number of players on the platforms where it’s accessible.

Initially made available in an early access stage back in December 2013, the game, known as “7 Days to Die,” involves players battling hordes of zombies while they search for shelter and gather essential resources. The early access phase of this game persisted for a remarkable 10 years before it officially launched version 1.0. Over these years, an impressive 18 million copies were sold, with many enthusiasts acknowledging its significant impact on the survival horror genre.

On the official Twitter account for the game “7 Days to Die,” it was announced that since the release of version 1.0, a massive number of players – over 270,000 across all platforms – have been trying their hand at surviving the initial Blood Moon event. In the new version 1.0, several improvements have been made compared to the early access days, including changes in trader missions. However, it’s important to note that some features from the game are not available on Xbox Series X/S consoles.

7 Days to Die 1.0 Release Sees Record Number Of Players

As a dedicated gamer, I can tell you that when I jumped into the 2016 version of 7 Days to Die on my Xbox One, it was a far cry from what PC players were enjoying. The features and mechanics were scaled back significantly, leaving me yearning for more. To make matters worse, updates ceased only a year after its launch.

Based on reports from PureXbox news, the current Xbox version is lacking several key features. These omissions include tools for creating worlds or levels, cross-platform play, and random maps. Instead, the initial release offers pre-made maps. It’s been mentioned that random maps will be added in a future update, but a specific date for this hasn’t been announced yet. As of now, there’s no confirmation about when the level and world editors might be included.

Included with the celebratory announcement was a commitment to 7 Days to Die crossplay, which is currently unavailable. The highly requested feature would allow friends to play together regardless of the platform they use. Once implemented, crossplay may cause another surge in player numbers.
