How to Make it Rain in Pokémon Legends: Z-A—Weather Change, Explained

While Pokémon Legends: Z-A doesn’t focus on weather as much as older games, being able to make it rain is still important for finding specific Pokémon and helping some of them evolve.

As a big Pokémon fan, I’m already planning my Pokédex completion strategy for Pokémon Legends: Z-A! It looks like catching all 230 Pokémon is going to be tricky, because some of them only appear when it’s raining or at certain times of day. Seriously, you’re going to need rain to finish the Pokédex, it seems!

Wondering how to change the weather in Pokémon Legends: Z-A without relying on luck? We have the information you need.

How to Change The Weather in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

As a Pokémon fan, I’m really excited about how the weather works in Pokémon Legends: Z-A! Apparently, the weather actually changes as time passes in the game, and you can control that by just chilling on the benches you find around Lumiose City. It’s a cool way to make the world feel more dynamic and alive!

Pokémon Legends: Z-A features various weather effects, most of which are purely visual. However, Rain is special because it’s the only weather condition where you can find Goomy and Sliggoo near Lumiose City. You can also always find Goomy in the Lumiose Sewers.

Sliggoo needs rain to evolve into Goodra, which makes weather conditions even more crucial for Pokémon trainers trying to catch them all. It’s tricky because changing the weather also affects the time of day, and some Pokémon only evolve during the day or at night.

To change the weather in Pokémon Legends: Z-A, follow these steps:

  1. Find a bench in Lumiose City.
  2. Press A to interact with the bench.
  3. Choose the ‘Kill Some Time Here’ Option.
  4. Select ‘Yes’ when asked ‘Do you want to hang out here until morning/night?’
  5. Wait for the game to load.
  6. Repeat the process until the desired weather spawns.

Can You Force Rain in Pokémon Legends: Z-A?

You can’t make it rain on purpose in Pokémon Legends: Z-A. Rain happens randomly, and when it does, it’s never for the whole day.

Rain in Pokémon Legends: Z-A doesn’t last very long, so you have a limited time to take advantage of it. This is actually helpful, though – if you get tired of constantly switching Pokémon to account for the weather, you can simply work on other parts of the game and wait for the rain to start again.

We’ve only seen rain stuck on screen during one specific side mission designed to show how weather works in combat. After the battle in that mission ends, the rain always stops.
