Deathbound: Where to Find Illion's Doll in Lower Districts

As a seasoned Soulslikes gamer with countless hours spent navigating the dark and mysterious worlds of these games, I can confidently say that the side quest for Illion’s Toy in Deathbound is a hidden gem worth pursuing.

As a gamer venturing through Deathbound, I’ve noticed that there aren’t many NPC side quests – at least not from my experience so far. However, there’s one intriguing quest hidden in the second area of the game that can be quite easy to overlook. In the Lower Districts, you might pass by Rafaili without giving him a second thought as he goes about his business. But if you take the time to talk to him multiple times, he’ll eventually share a mission with you, though it’s important to note that he only converses with Iulia directly. So, keep an eye out for this elusive quest!

After completing the task, he’ll ask you to carry out a small errand for him, and if you manage to find and access his house, there’s a generous reward waiting. Let’s delve deeper into the details of this side mission in Deathbound, including its location.

Illion’s Toy Location

Near the Door of the Old Ones in the Lower District

In the game “Deathbound,” located within the Lower Districts of Akraytia, you initially meet characters named Rafaili and his son Illion. Similar to many games by From Software, your interactions with them are mainly through their doors, with only a few instances where they appear during their storyline’s progression. It is hinted that Iulia Tchevlaskia has a personal relationship with Rafaili, appreciating him as a compassionate individual. This kindness becomes evident when he expresses concern over his son Illion and a missing toy. The toy is what Rafaili asks you to find, mentioning it was left in their Lower Districts residence. This house is near some remnants of the ‘Technology of the Old Ones.’

In the conversation with Rafaili, he mentions a large entrance, shaped like a square, located deeper in this region. This entrance is the one you pass through in the second part of this area, which leads to the second Phylactery you’ve encountered in the Lower Districts. Since you should have discovered and accessed this shortcut by now, just retrace your steps to reach this entrance. Rafaili’s residence is situated next to it, easily identifiable due to its wooden door among the others. Upon entering, don’t forget to pick up Illion’s Toy and the Sayabakn Turban Artefact.

Rewards

An Artefact & A Lot of Horror

Name Type Mystic Effect Ancient Effect
Sayabakn Turban Artefact +10 percent Max Heat +10 percent Stamina Regen

As I picked up the toy, I decided to revisit where I initially met Rafaili, only to find his door ajar. Given the chaos of Essencemancers and Death Cultists running rampant in Akraytia, an open door like this is unsettling (a common occurrence in Soulslike games), and stepping inside, you’ll understand why. Stepping onto Rafili’s patio, I was met with a heart-wrenching sight – the state of father and son, and Iulia’s obvious distress at the scene was entirely justified.

Following her unexpectedly swift melancholy, you may gather the objects beneath the funerary pyres to obtain 1 Purest Essence (a lore tidbit) and a Sizable Crystallised Essence. It’s worth noting that the Purest Essence is presumably from Illion, while the Large Crystallised Essence hails from Rafaili. These Consumables might appear as insignificant rewards for this sidequest; however, the Sayabakn Turban was the real prize in this endeavor. This Artifact is exceptionally powerful.
