Ball x Pit features 16 playable characters, but you begin with just one. As you progress through the game’s eight levels, you’ll unlock Blueprints that let you build new characters back in the city of New Ballbylon.
Building specific structures will give you access to new characters, adding variety to your gameplay. These unlockable characters, all part of the Ball x Pit collection, each have special abilities that differ from the starting character. For example, some can automatically select upgrades, while others can even play levels for you.
How to Unlock All 16 Ball x Pit Characters
You unlock new characters in Ball x Pit by finding and building special structures. Just placing the structure isn’t enough – you need to have your townspeople run into it while harvesting. You get the blueprints to build these structures by completing levels. The order you unlock characters seems to be set, and you’ll likely unlock most of them just by playing the game. You might need to play a bit extra after finishing the main game to unlock the very last ones.
| Character | Blueprints Required | Starting Ball | Gameplay Quirk |
|---|---|---|---|
The Warrior |
N/A | Bleed | A wandering warrior. The default character, no special gameplay quirks. |
The Itchy Finger |
Sheriff’s Office | Burn | A disgraced deputy. Has scattered aim, but shoots twice as fast and constantly launches balls if any are available. Can move at full speed while shooting. |
The Repentant |
Haunted House | Freeze | A sorrowful specimen, filled with regret. Balls deal 5% more damage each time they bounce. But, when they hit the back wall, they return to the player, damaging each enemy as they pass. |
The Cogitator |
Villa | Laser (Vertical) | A brilliant philosopher, lost in thought. Automatically chooses upgrades. |
The Embedded |
Veteran’s Hut | Poison | Marked by countless battles, he awaits his next assignment. Balls always pierce enemies until they hit a wall. |
The Shade |
Mausoleum | Dark | A killer for hire. Balls shoot from the back and have a base critical hit chance of 10%. |
The Cohabitants |
Cozy Home | Brood Mother | A couple with many, many children. For each ball launched, a copy is launched in the mirrored direction. Balls deal half damage. |
The Shieldbearer |
Iron Fortress | Iron | The front line’s first defense. Holds a large shield that bounces back balls that hit it. Balls deal 100% more damage each time they bounce off the shield. |
The Flagellant |
Monastery | Egg Sac | Just your average flagellant. Balls bounce normally off the bottom of the screen. |
The Juggler |
Theater | Lightning | A street performer, flourishes abound. Lobs balls into the air at a target position on the field. Balls don’t start bouncing until they reach the ground. |
The Tactician |
Captain’s Quarters | Iron | A retired general, experienced beyond belief. Battles become turn-based. |
The Radical |
Campground | Wind | Radicalized by years of solitude. Plays the game and chooses upgrades automatically. |
The Physicist |
Laboratory | Light | A pioneer of the field. Balls are affected by gravity, pulling towards the back of the screen. |
The Spendthrift |
Mansion | Vampire | A wealthy merchant, living a life of extravagance. Shoots all balls at the same time in a wide arc. |
The Empty Nester |
Single Family Home | Ghost | Finally, some peace and quiet. No baby balls. Each shot shoots multiple instances of one equipped special ball. |
The Makeshift Sisyphus |
Rocky Hill | Earthquake | A former king, tormented by time. Balls no longer deal direct hit damage, but AOE and status effect damage is increased by 4x. No baby balls. |
Once you’ve obtained The Radical, you can use him to automatically complete stages, making it much simpler to unlock the remaining characters. Just make sure the stage you choose still has Blueprints available to collect.
How to Unlock All Ball x Pit Stages
Okay, so if you want to unlock all the new stages in Ball x Pit, you gotta collect gears to upgrade the elevator. You get one gear every time you beat a level with a character you haven’t used there before, so you’ll be replaying levels a lot! Luckily, after a little while, you unlock the Matchmaker Blueprint. This lets you bring two characters into a level. If both of those characters are new to that level, you get two gears! That really speeds things up, especially when you need four or five gears for the final elevator upgrades.
| Stage Name | Unlock Method | |
