An assistant language teacher (ALT) led an English lesson for a fifth-grade class on Wednesday, October 22nd. The students practiced speaking English through a conversation activity based on the horror game ‘Silent Hill’, with the entire lesson conducted in English.
The fifth-year class played through a demo of a horror game together. They made decisions as a group, speaking in English and using common phrases like “walk around the room,” “take a stroll,” and “answer the phone.”
I wonder what the teacher was asked to do after the fetus was found in the restroom sink, but the post didn’t say.
The atmosphere was incredibly positive, filled with excitement and joy, as students really enjoyed their teacher’s innovative English lessons. It’s so good, in fact, that you’d almost expect someone like Hideo Kojima to be impressed!
I’m a big fan of using video games in education, and it’s happening more often than people realize. For example, Poland has included This War of Mine on its school reading lists, and a US university used Red Dead Redemption 2 to teach history. It’s encouraging to see games challenging the outdated idea that they’re simply violent.
