In The Outer Worlds 2, you’ll collect companions, weapons, and armor, and you’ll be able to upgrade your character. You’ll also find a lot of junk! While it might not seem useful right away, you can either sell junk for credits to buy things from vendors, or break it down into materials for crafting. If you’re wondering if there’s a best way to use all this junk, I’ve played the game and figured it out for you.
What Should You Do with Junk Items in The Outer Worlds 2?
To Sell or to Break Down?
Instead of selling unwanted items for credits in The Outer Worlds 2, it’s better to break them down. You’ll often get rare crafting materials this way, which are essential for making ammo, weapon upgrades, and other useful items you’ll need during your adventure.
Ammunition from shops and machines can be quite expensive. Depending on your weapons and the game’s difficulty, you’ll likely use a lot of ammo, so it’s important to have a good supply to keep playing.
Instead of buying ammo, it’s much simpler to break down unwanted items into materials and craft your own. This leaves you with credits to spend on upgrades like better armor and weapons, or essential supplies when you need them most.
Don’t forget you can sell old armor and weapons for much more money than junk items. Plus, you get a lot of useful crafting materials by breaking down gear. I found a good strategy was to sell one copy of an item and break down the other – this kept both my money and crafting supplies plentiful as I played.
What you do with unwanted items and old equipment is your choice. But from my experience, dismantling junk always ensured I had the crafting materials I needed and enough money to buy anything from a shop.
