Escape From Duckov Is Storming Steam, And Battlefield 6 Might Be Next

I never thought I’d see the day, but someone actually made Escape from Tarkov… but with ducks! And it’s become a huge hit on Steam – seriously, people are playing this! It’s wild.

Escape from Duckov is a fast-paced, visually simple shooting game where players, as armed ducks, fight to escape intense battles. It’s chaotic and surprisingly thrilling!

It’s just as enjoyable as you’d imagine, and it starts as a silly idea that feels like an internet joke. But surprisingly, it’s become one of the most popular shooting games this year – even generating more buzz than the anticipated Hollow Knight: Silksong, and now competing with major releases like Battlefield 6.

Escape From Duckov Nearly Matches Battlefield 6’s Steam Player Count

Data from SteamDB shows that Escape from Duckov almost had as many players on Steam as Battlefield 6 this past Friday, October 24th.

This morning around 6 am Pacific Time, Battlefield 6 had 258,906 players, slightly more than the 257,315 players currently playing the game with guns.

With Escape from Duckov gaining popularity quickly since its release a few years after Battlefield 6 – and hitting new player peaks almost every day – it’s likely this unique indie game will soon become more popular than the major title.

It’s remarkable that Escape from Duckov is performing so well on Steam, nearly matching a major EA release this Friday, and it really warrants a closer examination.

This game perfectly shows how a creative, well-made indie title – even a simple one, like a game about ducks shooting – can compete with major, heavily marketed games created by large teams.

I’m so excited about the upcoming games! It’s not just titles like our beloved Duck Souls showing that indie games are a big deal. Looking ahead to 2025, with games like Hollow Knight: Silksong, Hades 2, and Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 on the way, it really feels like we’re going to see indie developers not just making successful games, but actually leading the way in innovation and influencing the whole gaming industry. It’s a really promising time!

It’s great to see projects like these changing how we define success in gaming, proving that big budgets aren’t everything. I’m especially glad they exist – I’m really enjoying Silksong, and they’re encouraging other developers to be innovative and pursue their creative visions.
