Hollow Knight: All Stag Station Locations

Although the world of Hollow Knight is populated by insects, the game features a huge map to explore. Players will navigate this interconnected world primarily by running and jumping with the Knight, though other methods of travel become available later on.

Players can eventually unlock quick ways to travel around Hallownest, like using the Trams and Dreamgate, by collecting enough Essence for the Dream Nail. However, the Stagways are the first fast travel option available – a widespread network of tunnels originally built as trade routes and for general travel.

By the time of the game Hollow Knight, the Stagways have fallen into disuse and their stations are closed. However, dedicated players who explore Hallownest can still find and restore these old stations, bringing the Stagways back to life.

Heads up: This list contains spoilers! To help you find what you’re looking for, it includes names and details about bosses, abilities, and locations. It also reveals the ending of the Last Stag quest, so read carefully if you want to avoid spoilers.

How To Unlock The Stagways in Hollow Knight

To fully explore Hallownest, players need to find all 11 Stag Stations scattered throughout the kingdom. Most of these stations cost Geo to unlock, but they also include a bench where players can rest. When you ring the bell at a Stag Station for the first time, you’ll meet the Last Stag, who can then transport you between any stations you’ve unlocked.

If you wander off the platform and chat with him, he’ll fill you in on all the details about each location. Basically, he’s a walking guidebook!

In Hollow Knight, you can earn achievements by unlocking Stag Stations. Unlocking half of the stations gets you the “Connection” achievement, and unlocking all 11 stations earns you the “Hope” achievement.

Ancient Basin (Palace Grounds) Stag Station Location

  • Stag Station Unlock Cost: 300 Geo

“What station is this, hidden all the way at the bottom of the world?

Until I heard the bell calling, I didn’t even know the Stagways travelled so deep.

No matter how old I grow, the world still keeps surprises like this stowed away…”

Once you defeat the Broken Vessel in the Ancient Basin, you’ll receive the Monarch Wings. These wings let you double jump, which unlocks new areas to explore and even helps you find useful shortcuts.

To get to the Palace Grounds, you’ll need the Monarch Wings. Look for the bottom right corner of the Ancient Basin – it’s directly below Cornifer and the Pale King’s fountain. Once you’ve double jumped down there, head to the right to find the Hidden Station. It costs 300 Geo to unlock.

City of Tears (City Storerooms) Stag Station Location

  • Stag Station Unlock Cost: 200 Geo

I have fond memories of this place. It was a busy hub, receiving shipments from everywhere in the kingdom.

Okay, so when you first get into the City of Tears after using the City Crest, you’ll start going down. As you’re riding the elevator down, you can jump across some platforms before it lands. If you do that, head right and you’ll find an entrance. From there, it’s just a matter of fighting your way through the rooms and enemies to find the first Stagway!

As players enter, they’ll see some of Cornifer’s notes scattered around, but the area will quickly seal off, starting a fight. Once the enemies are defeated, continue upwards to find Cornifer and a bench. A path to the left leads to a long hallway where Zote will be waiting (if you rescued him in Greenpath), eventually opening into a larger room with platforms and more enemies. To find the Stag Station, take the path at the top left of this room and head towards the top right – you’ll need to pay 200 Geo to unlock it.

City of Tears (King’s Station) Stag Station Location

  • Stag Station Unlock Cost: 300 Geo

This figure is named after the King of Hallownest, the one who commissioned the construction of the stagways and stations.

The King didn’t personally travel the stagways, but people say he was an amazing sight – incredibly bright and beautiful, almost too dazzling to look at.

You’ll find King’s Station in the latter part of the City of Tears, but you need to go through the Royal Waterways to reach it. To access the Royal Waterways, look for a drain cover to the left of the fountain square. You’ll need a Simple Key to open it.

Once you’re inside, take the path on the left and follow it downwards until you see a crooked bench. After the bench, the path twists and turns. You’ll need to go all the way to the right, drop down to a lower level, then to the far left, drop down again, and finally head to the right.

To continue, players need the Crystal Heart ability. You’ll know where to use it by looking for small, pink crystals on the ground.

When you get to the area with the acid pools and Hwurmps, use the platforms to climb upwards. Continue up the shaft until you see a green pipe. To the right, there’s a small opening in the wall. Use the Mantis Claw to climb through it and enter the Eternal Emilitia’s room. Leave the room through the door on the far left, and turn right. You’ll find King’s Station. The platform here can be unlocked by spending 300 Geo.

Deepnest (Distant Village) Stag Station Location

  • Stag Station Unlock Cost: 250 Geo

“I have never been to this station. It has a strange air of danger to it.”

In the far western part of Deepnest, you’ll discover the Distant Village, home to one of the Dreamers. In the upper-right corner of this deserted village is a Stag Station, which costs 250 Geo to unlock.

Dirtmouth Stag Station Location

  • Stag Station Unlock Cost: Free

“This place was once full of travellers coming and going. It seems much quieter now.”

Dirtmouth station is unique because you can’t travel directly to it from the world map. Players need to reach Dirtmouth by using the Stagways from a previously unlocked station. Once there, they can open the exit to the village, allowing easy travel between Dirtmouth and all other stations, and quick access to the merchants located there.

Forgotten Crossroads Stag Station Location

  • Stag Station Unlock Cost: 50 Geo

I haven’t forgotten the days when these roads were bustling with activity. They’re the same routes I drove when I first started out as a driver.

Players will probably find this Stag Station first, since the Forgotten Crossroads is the initial large area they can explore. There’s another path just below where you fight the False Knight, heading to the left, and that leads directly to the station. It costs 50 Geo to activate.

Fungal Wastes (Queen’s Station) Stag Station Location

  • Stag Station Unlock Cost: 120 Geo

This location was a busy travel center, conveniently located for people exploring the more remote parts of the country.

The Queen’s Station connects Fog Canyon and the Fungal Wastes. When players first enter Fog Canyon, most of it is inaccessible – they need to go all the way down to the bottom. From there, turning left will lead you to Millibelle the banker, while turning right takes you to the Queen’s Station.

When you start the game, you’ll meet Quirrel, who mentions the Stagways. You can unlock a platform located at the bottom left of the screen, but it costs 120 Geo to activate.

Greenpath Stag Station Location

  • Stag Station Unlock Cost: 140 Geo

Wow, this place looks so different from when I last visited. The plants have grown so overgrown, it feels like the station is being swallowed by nature.

You’ll find the Greenpath station in the northern, central part of the area. Getting there requires going through a section with Moss Knights and Moss Chargers. As you explore, look for shortcuts to make traveling easier. It’s a good idea to unlock the Stagways in this area before fighting Hornet.

After the Hornet boss fight, don’t go left. Instead, head down the path marked by the Stag Station sign to reach a new area filled with Squits. The station itself will be on your left, and it costs 140 Geo to unlock.

Queen’s Gardens Stag Station Location

  • Stag Station Unlock Cost: 200 Geo

I’d nearly forgotten about this place. It wasn’t a station most bugs used – it was a secure hideaway for our former Queen.

The Queen’s Gardens is a tricky area in Hallownest with dangerous obstacles and blocked routes, making it hard to get around and find the Stag Station. Players can reach it from Fog Canyon, but they’ll need either Isma’s Tear or the Shade Cloak, depending on which way they enter.

Although challenging, the game’s path is fairly straightforward because certain areas are initially blocked off. As you explore the Queen’s Gardens, you’ll find new enemies and some familiar ones. Eventually, you’ll reach a locked gate that leads to the Stag Station. To progress, head towards the arena where you fight Marmu and go to the far right side. You’ll find a wall you can break through, which will take you inside the station. To unlock the station’s entrance, you’ll need to pay 200 Geo.

Resting Grounds Stag Station Location

  • Stag Station Unlock Cost: Free

“Passengers would come here to conduct rituals for those who had passed on…”

Okay, so when I first stumbled into the Resting Grounds in Hollow Knight, it was pretty wild! These little Dreamers found this grave and immediately tried to trap the Knight in a dream – seriously! Luckily, I met the Seer right after, and she gave me the Dream Nail. It’s this awesome, ancient tool that lets you collect this stuff called Essence, which is super important for progressing in the game.

Once you’ve left the Seer’s room, go to the second hallway on the other side to find the next Stagways station. Unlike other stations, you won’t need to spend Geo to unlock this one – instead, you’ll need to pull a lever to open it.

Final Stag Station Location (Howling Cliffs)

  • Stag Station Unlock Cost: Free

“I’ve found it! The Stag Nest, where I was born and raised.

None may remain to welcome us, but the nest is still a sight to behold!”

Once players have found all ten Stag Stations, the Last Stag will tell the Knight he knows where the Stag Nest – his birthplace – is located.

Following this, the player will be asked to journey with him to the Stag Nest, which then becomes a new location for quick travel to the Howling Cliffs. At the nest, players will discover a Vessel Fragment and a broken egg, suggesting the Last Stag isn’t the only one of his species. Discovering the nest and the egg unlocks the ‘Hope’ achievement.

After discovering the broken egg, the Last Stag’s name changes to Old Stag.
