Ball x Pit is a game that really shines the more you play it. You’ll constantly discover new combinations and ways to play, and the game encourages experimentation with different ball upgrades. After spending a lot of time with it, I’m ready to share a ranking of the best balls in Ball x Pit.
The further you go underground, the more you’ll appreciate balls that affect a wide area. Poison balls are generally the most effective. Balls that increase enemy damage are also powerful, especially later in the game. We’ve ranked the 18 basic ball types mainly based on how strong their evolved forms become.

In Ball x Pit, the strongest balls can inflict significant damage on their own. Satan is currently the top performer, closely followed by Virus, as both excel at hitting multiple enemies at once. While Frozen Flame and Nuclear Bomb don’t deal as much immediate damage, they make enemies more vulnerable, boosting the effectiveness of other high-tier Ball x Pit balls.

For support, the Radiation Beam is a great pick, and Leech works well if you’re focusing on Bleed damage. While damage-only support balls aren’t usually helpful, Bomb stands out with its strong area-of-effect damage and quick recharge time. Both Noxious and Mosquito Swarm are solid choices, but Virus and Mosquito King are even better if you can get them.

If you’re looking for a strong starting ball in Ball x Pit, Poison is a great choice, especially considering how powerful its evolutions are – grab it when you can! Black Hole seems impressive, but it’s tricky to use effectively and its long recharge time and complicated evolution (which needs Sun, another evolution itself) make it difficult to justify. Sacrifice and Hemorrhage are solid options if you want to focus on inflicting Bleed, though some players might prefer building around Burn instead.

While the Horizontal Laser is likely the stronger of the two laser options, upgrading it doesn’t offer much benefit. Flicker’s full-screen area-of-effect damage seems promising, but it isn’t powerful enough to be truly useful, particularly when compared to Sun and Flash. Similarly, Lovestruck’s healing ability isn’t worth the trade-off, as it deals almost no damage. If you’re looking to add healing to your setup, you’d be better off using one of the Mosquito options instead.

Okay, so if you want the best ball in the game – Satan – you need to unlock Charm first. It’s a bit of a grind though, because you only get Charm after beating The Heavenly Gates for the first time. Honestly, after that, Satan’s evolutions aren’t amazing. Maggot and Wraith are pretty weak, and Wraith is especially bad if you play as certain characters in Ball x Pit. It just doesn’t offer much at all.
