This article contains spoilers for the One Piece manga.
In the world of One Piece, the Yonko are the four most powerful pirates. They rule the New World and are the biggest contenders to find the ultimate treasure, the One Piece. Throughout the story, they’ve proven their incredible strength and have greatly impacted events.
Although the Yonko are incredibly powerful, several characters are even stronger. Some Yonko, like Whitebeard and Shanks, are particularly exceptional, and others, such as Rocks and Roger, who never held the title, are on a higher level altogether.
Rocks D. Xebec
The Captain of the Rocks Pirates
Rocks D. Xebec was a hugely influential figure in the world of One Piece, active around 40 years ago. He was incredibly powerful – several pirates who served under him later became Emperors of the Sea, including Whitebeard, Big Mom, and Kaido. His accomplishments suggest he was stronger than even the Emperors. He easily defeated and killed a Navy Admiral, and also triumphed over an invincible army and the famed Holy Knight, Figarland Garling. Xebec even clashed with Imu, though he was ultimately defeated in that battle.
Gol D. Roger
The Pirate King
Man, Roger really did it – he sailed the Grand Line and became Pirate King! That took incredible strength, and it’s amazing to think he fought much like Rocks did, relying heavily on Haki. Honestly, people say Roger was right up there with Rocks in terms of power, maybe even stronger! Being the Pirate King, he was just on another level entirely. When you compare him to the current Yonko, he was definitely a step above. And it’s wild to think he grew even more powerful after everything that happened at God Valley!
Whitebeard
The World’s Strongest Man
Originally a member of the Rocks Pirates, Whitebeard became famous as the captain of the Whitebeard Pirates and one of the Four Emperors (Yonko). He was noticeably stronger than the other Emperors, considered equal to the Pirate King, and many believed he was the most likely to find the One Piece after Gol D. Roger’s death.
Shanks
The Red Haired Yonko
Shanks, one of the current Emperors of the Sea in One Piece, doesn’t have a Devil Fruit power. He’s incredibly strong and relies entirely on Haki when he fights. He achieved this status about six years ago, and his reputation has continued to grow ever since.
Shanks’ Haki is incredibly powerful, often likened to that of the legendary Joy Boy. This makes him the most skilled Haki user currently known and a true heir to the legacy of Gol D. Roger. Many believe Shanks is now the strongest pirate in the world.
Imu
The Secret Sovereign of the World
I’ve been watching One Piece, and it’s become clear that Imu is the true power behind everything. He’s been secretly ruling the world for about 800 years! Honestly, his strength is way beyond anything we’ve seen from the Yonko. We were all wondering just how powerful Imu was, but what happened at God Valley was insane – he actually withstood attacks from five Yonko-level fighters and didn’t even get a scratch. Everything points to Imu being on a completely different level than anyone else in the series.
Garp
The Hero of the Marines
I’ve heard a lot about Garp, they call him the Hero of the Marines. Apparently, he was Roger’s greatest opponent within the Navy, and people often said they were equals in terms of strength. From what I understand, he managed to push Roger into a corner quite a few times back in the day.
In God Valley, Garp defeated Whitebeard, Kaido, and Big Mom, and even battled Imu. More recently, despite being elderly, Garp single-handedly took down the Blackbeard Pirates.
Joy Boy
The Second Nika
Joy Boy is a legendary figure from a forgotten age, the Void Century. Born in the Ancient Kingdom, he famously battled an alliance of twenty kings in a devastating worldwide conflict.
I’ve heard whispers about this figure – most people don’t really know much about him, but he’s incredibly powerful. He’s not just strong, he’s on a whole different level than the other Yonko, easily surpassing them. Apparently, his Haki is so intense it once made the Five Elders actually retreat all the way back to Marijoa, and even frightened Imu himself. It’s a scary thought.
Davy D. Jones
The Ancestor of Xebec and Blackbeard
The story of Davy Jones first appeared in the Long Ring Long Land arc of One Piece, but the author, Oda, recently revealed more about him in the Elbaf arc. Davy Jones lived during the Void Century and was a powerful enemy of Imu, someone even Imu feared. He’s the ancestor of both Rocks D. Xebec and Blackbeard, proving he was incredibly strong.
