After completing the main story in Pokemon Legends: Z-A, there’s plenty to do, but players will find it challenging without a well-trained team of Pokemon.
Whether you’re aiming to complete the Pokedex, jump back into Lumiose City’s Battle Royale, or catch a rare and powerful Pokemon for the very first time, this guide covers everything you need to know about the post-game content in Legends Z-A.
Complete All Mable’s Research Tasks
After finishing the main story, one of the first things Pokémon Trainers will want to do is tackle all of Mabel’s Research Tasks. Some of these tasks require progress beyond the main game. For example, Pokémon like Steelix and Scizor need a Metal Coat to evolve, and that item isn’t available until you finish the main mission, ‘Operation Protect Lumiose’.
The list of Research Tasks that cannot be completed until the endgame also includes:
- Completing the Pokexed
- Completing the Mega Pokedex
Okay, so be warned – you’re gonna need a lot of patience for the side quests. Seriously, a lot of them are a real grind, so buckle up and get ready to put in the work if you want to finish them all.
Get Shiny Charm And Start Hunting Rare Pokemon
As a long-time Pokémon fan, I’m so excited to see Pokémon Legends Z-A bringing back a ton of older Pokémon! It’s awesome to see forgotten favorites like Staryu and Pidgey getting another chance to shine. And honestly, the Shiny versions of some of these Gen 1 Pokémon look incredible! Everyone’s going to be hunting for Ralts, Charmander, and especially Gastly – those are some of the most sought-after collectibles, and I can’t wait to try and catch them all!
Shiny Pokémon look especially cool when they Mega Evolve, giving players another great reason to hunt for them. To make Shiny Hunting easier, the developers have changed how Shiny Pokémon appear and stay in the game. Now, a Shiny Pokémon won’t disappear just because you leave and return to an area – it will only vanish if you scare it, lower its health, or catch it.
The Shiny Charm, earned by completing all the Research Tasks, is especially helpful right now. Make sure to finish those tasks before the game ends so you can start hunting for Shiny Pokémon!
Catch Kalos Legendaries: Yveltal, Xerneas & Zygarde
Like all Pokémon games, Pokémon Legends Z-A features powerful Legendary Pokémon. This time, the main Legendaries from the Kalos region – Yveltal, Xerneas, and Zygarde – return for challenging battles. You’ll face them in the post-game Main Missions, but be warned: you’ll need to be well-prepared to win!
Battling Zygarde will be particularly tough because, like some other powerful Pokémon, it has a multi-stage fight. You’ll face it in three forms: Zygarde 10%, Zygarde 50%, and its complete form. The final stage of this battle is both impressive and difficult, and some players may need a little practice to overcome it.
Get Into Ev & Hyper Training
Pokemon battles have changed a lot recently, and the upcoming Ranked Seasons (until new games are released) are expected to be very competitive. Now is the perfect time to learn about EV Training and Hyper Training to build a strong Pokemon team.
Collecting Bottle Caps to fully level up Pokémon at the Justice Dojo can take a while, but players who regularly compete in the Infinite Royale after finishing the main game will naturally earn enough to prepare at least three strong teams for player-versus-player battles.
Beat Taunie & Get Eternal Flower Floette
The ultimate challenge in Pokemon Legends: Z-A‘s post-game is catching Eternal Flower Floette, a highly sought-after Pokemon first seen in Pokemon X & Y. Many players had given up hope of ever being able to obtain this rare Pokemon after waiting for so long.
I’m so excited! I can finally get my Eternal Flower Floette and Mega Evolve it! All I had to do was beat Taunie in a rematch – she shows up after you get pretty far in the Infinite Royale, around rows 12-14. That rematch triggers a cutscene where our rival and the Team MZ leader handles the Pokémon that used to belong to AZ, and gives you the Floettite you need for the Mega Evolution. Just a heads-up though, this thing is way too strong for competitive battling, so it’s banned!
