A new island called Atal’Utek, located near Zul’Aman in World of Warcraft: Midnight, is expected to be featured in the upcoming expansion, potentially with Patch 12.1. Even though Midnight hasn’t been released yet, players are already guessing where World of Warcraft will take them next.
The new World of Warcraft: Midnight expansion is expected to launch in March of next year. It will add a lot of new content to the game, including the Zul’Aman zone, which builds upon the Cataclysm raid and transforms it into a complete region to explore.
Potential World of Warcraft: Midnight Patch Zone – Atal’Utek
A recent update to the alpha version of World of Warcraft: Midnight includes a curious change within Zul’Aman. A large island previously known as the Isle of Fangs has been renamed Atal’Utek. Although not shown on the in-game world map, content creator MrGM found a map of this area within the game’s files and shared it online, potentially hinting at future content.
Currently, if players attempt to fly over the damaged bridge leading to Atal’Utek, they receive a warning message and are teleported back to the Zul’Aman coast, with their screen briefly obscured by mist. Despite this, players have been taking screenshots from a distance, showing off the zone’s environment – including rivers of poisonous slime, crumbling ruins, a snake temple, and what appears to be at least one dungeon entrance.

What’s fascinating about this mystery is that the new name seems to come from a very obscure piece of older lore. In a now-disregarded Warcraft role-playing game book, Ula-Tek was a serpent goddess worshipped by the Amani empire. They offered sacrifices hoping to awaken her, and she was even described as an “Old God” with ties to dark, Void-like magic. Many elements of her story later appeared in World of Warcraft: Chronicle Volume 1, used for the character Kith’ix, a lieutenant of the true Old Gods. Interestingly, a shrine dedicated to Ula-Tek still appears on a map in the original World of Warcraft game manual from over two decades ago.
There’s currently no guarantee that players will be able to visit Atal’Utek. Past instances, like a similar teleportation barrier in Azj-Kahet from WoW: The War Within, haven’t led to anything. However, given its promising location, it would be surprising if World of Warcraft didn’t incorporate the island somehow. While it could be a small, limited zone like Siren Isle, its size and potential content suggest it’s more likely to be a significant content patch if it appears at all.
