Inside Electronic Arts (EA), many employees are reportedly unhappy and are openly making fun of the company’s increasing reliance on artificial intelligence for development and other tasks.
A recent Business Insider report reveals that EA leadership has been strongly encouraging its 15,000 employees to integrate AI into nearly all aspects of their work. This includes using AI for tasks ranging from writing code and creating artwork to even drafting scripts for difficult conversations with employees about things like salary and career advancement.
Employees Are Worried About Their Jobs
According to employees who wished to remain anonymous, the company is pushing them to use an internal AI chatbot called “ReefGPT,” even though it often makes mistakes and generates incorrect information that they have to fix. Employees in creative roles, such as character and level designers, report being asked to use their own work to train the AI. This has caused concern and frustration, as they fear the company is trying to replace these positions, potentially leading to job losses.
Honestly, it’s kinda wild to hear this, but a former Respawn QA tester – a senior one, no less – thinks AI might have cost him his job this year. He said the AI was actually able to do a big part of what he did – basically, going through tons of playtester feedback and summarizing it. It’s a bit scary, but it shows how quickly things are changing in the industry.
The push to use AI at EA has become so strong that employees are openly making fun of it. Business Insider reported that one internal Slack message was a meme illustrating this frustration.
A meme shared last month within Electronic Arts’ employee Slack channel humorously captured the current excitement around AI. It depicts a man asking three CEOs what they want, and they all excitedly shout, “AI!” When he asks what they want AI to do, they admit they haven’t figured that out. And when asked when they want it, they yell, “Now!” The post received dozens of laughing reactions from Electronic Arts employees.
Electronic Arts (EA) didn’t provide a statement to Business Insider for this report and hasn’t yet responded to a request for comment from TopMob. We will update this story if EA releases any public comments.
