WoW: Midnight Alpha Had a Hilarious Glitch With Some Player Models

A funny bug in the early test version of World of Warcraft: Midnight made all Night Elf characters with a specific body type stand rigidly in an “A-pose” instead of moving normally. The cause of the problem isn’t known, but it lasted throughout the fourth week of testing.

The first closed alpha test for WoW: Midnight started on October 2nd, giving a select group of fans an early preview of the new expansion. Since then, World of Warcraft has gradually unlocked different areas within Midnight each week, allowing them to test and refine the game as they go.

WoW: Midnight Alpha Body Type 2 Night Elf A-Pose Glitch

During the fourth week of testing, which started on October 22nd, a funny bug appeared. In this version of the game, all Night Elf characters – including player characters and all female Nightborne and Night Elf NPCs in World of Warcraft – unexpectedly froze in a static ‘A-pose’. No matter what they did – walking, jumping, fighting, or even riding – they stayed stuck in this pose, with their weapons awkwardly clipping through the ground. WoW content creator MrGM recorded a video of this amusing glitch and posted it on Twitter.

Animators often begin working with 3D models using an A-pose. It’s similar to the well-known T-pose, but with the arms positioned at a more relaxed, 45-degree angle instead of straight out to the sides. The game World of Warcraft uses the A-pose as its standard modeling position.

Okay, so nobody really knows why this crazy glitch happened in World of Warcraft. Maybe they were trying out a new animation and messed something up in the code, or it was just a weird result of something they already added. Whatever the reason, it’s pretty funny, and I’m guessing they’ll fix it in the next alpha build.

Just heard the alpha servers are temporarily down, which is a great sign! It sounds like the fifth and final alpha build should be here within the next day or two. They’re saying this build will include everything we’ve seen so far, plus a sneak peek at some of the endgame stuff from Midnight, including the Prey system. Seriously, the alpha is wrapping up, and that means the Midnight beta is almost here! If you’re hoping to get into the beta, you can sign up for a chance on the official website, but the easiest way to guarantee a spot is to pre-order the World of Warcraft: Midnight Epic Edition. I’m so excited!
