As a gamer with over two decades of space-faring adventures under my belt, this latest leak about Starfield’s land vehicle has me more excited than a kid on Christmas morning! I can almost hear the rumble of engines and feel the thrill of exploring new planets from the comfort of my trusty rover.

Online, there’s been a leak of footage showcasing the forthcoming ground vehicle in the upcoming game, Starfield. This freshly surfaced video hints at some previously undisclosed aspects of how driving and navigation might function within Starfield.

In early May 2024, fans got their first glimpse at Starfield’s land vehicle during Bethesda’s video preview of upcoming features for the game. At approximately 4 minutes and 44 seconds into the clip, the company displayed a four-wheeled space buggy navigating through a desert. However, the developer has not provided specific details about when this vehicle will be introduced in the game or if it will be the only means of transport available.

Starfield Land Vehicle Will Feature Thrusters, Leak Suggests

Meanwhile, as we wait for further updates, a secret video clip of the space rover gameplay was released on August 10, allegedly from 4chan. The 29-second video depicts a player exploring what seems to be Jemison, the third planet in the Alpha Centauri system and the setting for New Atlantis in Starfield. The footage suggests that the forthcoming rover will be fitted with thrusters, enabling it to lift off the ground briefly. This feature should reduce the likelihood of getting stuck on the rugged terrain of Starfield’s over 1,000 planets, which were not primarily designed for land vehicles at first.

In the new space rover design, there will be a gauge akin to stamina that manages the thrusters. This gauge recharges on its own when the vehicle is stationary, mirroring how games handle jumping mechanics. The recent footage leak indicates that the land vehicle in Starfield can be driven from a first-person perspective, along with the previously confirmed third-person viewpoint, which was announced back in May 2024.

Starfield Companions Will Have New Voice Lines While Driving

The video suggests that Bethesda has added new voice lines for companions in the upcoming transportation feature. In the beginning of the clip, it sounds like Sarah is urging the protagonist to hang on tightly, but she doesn’t seem to be sitting in the passenger seat, so her voice might be coming from within the space rover’s storage area or trunk.

Starfield’s Land Vehicle Possibly Arriving in Next Update

Beyond the gameplay clips, the same source also posted a picture that appears to be a rover from Starfield’s photo mode. This rover resembles the vehicle Bethesda previewed in the spring with its doorless design and white-and-red color scheme. The source of the leak hinted that the highly anticipated space buggy will make its official debut in the August 2024 update for Starfield.
