As you adventure through Dragon Quest 1 HD-2D Remake to defeat the evil Dragonlord, you’ll discover hidden Special Scrolls containing new spells and abilities. Plus, your hero will learn unique powers simply by battling enemies, earning experience, and leveling up!

This Dragon Quest I Remake guide will help you locate every Special Scroll in the game. It also details all the skills and abilities you’ll unlock as your character levels up.

All Level Up Skills and Abilities in Dragon Quest 1 Remake

This guide will cover all the skills and abilities your Hero character learns as you gain experience in Dragon Quest 1 HD Remake. Keep in mind that this list might not be completely exhaustive, as some abilities are learned at higher levels we haven’t reached yet.

Skill/Ability Description
At start – Cattle Prod A strike that can deal heavy damage to beast family monsters (Uses 7 MP)
At Start – Cop Out Potentially deflects enemy attacks onto an enemy (Uses 2 MP)
Lv 3 – Heal Restores at least 30 HP (Uses 3 MP)
Lv 4 – Sizz Singes a group of enemies with a blazing fire (Uses 4 MP)
Lv 6 – Flame Slash Slashes an enemy with a white-hot weapon (Uses 6 MP)
Lv 6 – Snooze Puts a group of enemies to sleep (Uses 3 MP)
Lv 8 – Zap Calls down lightning on a single enemy (Uses 6 MP)
Lv 8 – Peep Provides an appraisal of items and reveals the nature of a treasure chest’s contents.
Lv 10 – Fizzle Prevents a group of enemies from using magic (Uses 5 MP)
Lv 10 – Dodgy Dance Employs fancy footwork to increase the user’s ability to evade attacks (Uses 4 MP)
Lv 12 – Evac Allows you to exit instantly from dungeons, towers, and caves.
Lv 12 – Dragon Slash A brutal blow that causes heavy damage to dragons (Uses 7 MP)
Lv 13 – Zoom Allows you to return instantly to certain places you’ve visited.
Lv 14 – Sizzle Burns a whole group of enemies with a blazing wall of fire (Uses 8 MP)
Lv 15 – Holy Protection Generates a holy aura that causes weaker monsters to avoid your party (Uses 4 MP)
Lv 16 – Defending Champion Significantly reduces the damage taken from all attacks (Uses 2 MP)
Lv 17 – Midheal Restores at least 75 HP (Uses 6 MP)
Lv 18 – Gust Slash Slashes an enemy with a gale-force weapon (Uses 8 MP)
Lv 21 – Zapple Calls down fearsome lightning on a single enemy (Uses 10 MP)
Lv 24 – Lightning Slash Slashes an enemy with a crackling weapon infused with lightning (Uses 8 MP)
Lv 27 – Falcon Slash A double-slicing attack faster than a falcon on the wing (Uses 10 MP)
Lv 30 – Kasizz Scorches a group of enemies with the blazing flames of the underworld (Uses 16 MP)
Lv 32 – Insulatle Forms a barrier that protects from breath attacks (Uses 8 MP)
Lv 35 – Kazap Rains down powerful thunderbolts on all enemies (Uses 30 MP)
Lv 40 – Gigaslash A secret sword technique that assails all enemies with bolts of blazing lightning (Uses 38 MP)

How to Find Them All

Here are the Special Scrolls we’ve found so far in DQ1 Remake:

Safe Passage Galenholm – Examine bookshelf in Old Man’s home. Allows the user and any companions to float unharmed over hazardous surfaces (Uses 2 MP)
Moreheal Cantlin – Examine the second-floor bookshelf of the home to the west. Restores at least 164 HP (Uses 10 MP
Snoop Tantegel Castle – Open locked blue door to find a room of chests. Lets you know if there’s any treasure or other goodies close by (Uses 2 MP)
Crack Shrine of Rain – First floor chest. Pierces a single enemy with razor-sharp icicles (Uses 3 MP)
Crackle Faerie Village Inn Chest. Rips into a group of enemies with sharp icicles (Uses 9 MP)
Kacrack Weeping Isle – Exterior – Red Chest Skewers all enemies with a hail of sharp icicles (Uses 12 MP)
Magic Barrier Rimuldar – In house to the northwest. Builds a barrier that provides protection from enemy spells (Uses 6 MP)
Snub Faerie Village – Examine bookshelves in the house to the west. Builds a barrier that protects from spells (Uses 6 MP)
Reheal Citadel of the Monarch of Medals – Red chest on ground floor. Gradually restores HP (Uses 6 MP)
Whistle Grave of Galen B1 – Chest at top section. Attracts the attention of nearby monsters.
Nose for Treasure Craggy Cave B1 – In Chest Allows you to find out how much unclaimed treasure is in an area.
Miracle Slash Cave of the Dwarves B1 – Chest in the Northeast spot. A mysterious attack that hurts an enemy while healing the user (Uses 10 MP)
Undead Doer Cave of Dwarves B2 – In Chest A sanctified strike that can deal heavy damage to undead monsters (Uses 7 MP)
Demon Demeaner Damdara – Barrel in west building. An attack that can deal heavy damage to demons (Uses 7 MP)
Attack Attacker Cantlin – Second-floor dresser in the home on the west side. A heavy hit that reduces an enemy’s attack (Uses 6 MP)
Kacrackle Slash Grave of Galen B3 – Red chest in top-left corner. Slashes an enemy with a bitterly cold weapon (Uses 10 MP)
Focus Pocus In second part of Wierdwood (Red Chest). Restores MP after each turn for a while (Uses 8 MP)
Muster Strength Craggy Cave B2 Chest. Builds up energy to bolster the next attack (Uses 3 MP)
Wild Side Give ten Mini Medals to the Monarch. Allows you to act twice per turn for a wee while (Uses 30 MP)
Sandstorm Erdrick’s Hollow B1 – Inside a chest. Conjures a sandstorm which reduces an enemy group’s accuracy (Uses 3 MP)
