As a nostalgic gamer who grew up with the original Modern Warfare 2, I can’t help but feel like Christmas has come early! The H2M Mod is nothing short of a masterpiece – it’s like stepping back into my teenage years, but with all the benefits of modern gaming.
More recently, video clips have been appearing on the internet that appear to depict the multiplayer aspect of Modern Warfare 2 Remastered, a version that never materialized. In actuality, this is an extensive multiplayer mod for MW Remastered, a game released nearly a decade ago. Known as the H2M Mod, it has been under development for some time now.
At first blush, it’s the most faithful recreation of 2009’s Modern Warfare 2 that I’ve ever seen.
Take Me Back
For numerous Call of Duty enthusiasts, Modern Warfare 2 stands as the peak of the franchise. Its multiplayer experience was impeccable, an aspect we continue to recall fondly, while it served as a compelling continuation of the narrative initiated in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. In 2016, Activision unveiled Modern Warfare Remastered, which gave the original game a complete makeover. More recently, in 2020, the campaign of MW2 was remastered.
Currently, a group of skilled modders have successfully integrated the multiplayer aspect of Modern Warfare 2 into the 2016 version of Modern Warfare Remastered, resulting in H2M. This updated version retains all the maps, game modes, weapons, and even specific aspects of the user interface and sound library that you cherished from the original 2009 game.

Normally, Activision Blizzard is stern about fan-made works, sending cease and desist letters or ordering them to be removed from the internet. However, this shouldn’t apply in this instance. To play H2M, you’ll need to already own a copy of Modern Warfare Remastered on Steam (since it’s only available for PC as a mod), and the team developing the project has clarified they aren’t accepting any payment for their creation.
As a lifelong fan of the Modern Warfare series, I am beyond excited for the upcoming release of H2M! Having grown up playing Modern Warfare 2, the nostalgia alone has me eagerly awaiting its return. But what really seals the deal for me is the modernized feel that this remake promises. With redesigned leveling systems, menus, and a revamped killstreak system, it’s like getting to experience my favorite game from fifteen years ago in a whole new light. And with 50 maps, including some converted single-player missions turned into playable multiplayer maps, the gaming possibilities are endless. I can hardly wait for August 16th to roll around so I can jump back into the world of Modern Warfare and rekindle old friendships online!
