As a lifelong Marvel fan who has witnessed the rise and fall of countless heroes and villains across various universes, the prospect of Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom in the MCU is nothing short of exhilarating. With his knack for embodying complex characters and his uncanny resemblance to Tony Stark, I can’t help but wonder if RDJ might be stepping into the role of none other than Doom Supreme – a villain who has mastered the art of manipulating alternate versions of himself!

Since it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. will play Doctor Doom, fans have been curious about which version of Doom he’ll portray in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Given that RDJ has previously played Iron Man, whose face is widely recognized within the primary MCU, it seems likely that the Doom he’s depicting hails from a different universe. Although there are countless ways Doctor Doom could enter the MCU, one intriguing possibility from recent Avengers comics might be the emergence of Doom Supreme.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but marvel at the character who boldly titles himself the most formidable Doom ever – Doom Supreme. This titan didn’t just boost his own strength, but struck a pact with none other than Mephisto, the devil of the Marvel Universe. In this agreement, he assembled an elite team of the malevolent and mighty villains spanning the multiverse, forming the Multiversal Masters of Evil.

Doom Supreme, EXPLAINED

Could Robert Downey Jr Bring Doom Supreme and the Multiversal Masters of Evil to Life?

In the 2021 series of Avengers comics published by Marvel, we meet Doom Supreme. This character originates from Earth-22215, an alternate universe where he amassed immense power. His armor is fueled by capturing and absorbing the life energy of other versions of himself. By doing so, these captured Dooms become subservient to him, following his commands. Among his minions are a Man-Thing variant called Doom-Thing, as well as Doom the Living Planet, a version similar to Ego the Living Planet. He often refers to himself as “the Doom who shatters other Dooms.”

It wouldn’t be until Doom Supreme witnessed a battle between Kid Thanos and the Prehistoric Avengers that the multiversal plans would come to fruition. Mephisto approached Doom Supreme, advising the villain to gather the most evil villins of the multiverse and use them to conquer all other universes, until only the 616 universe was left. So Doom Supreme went to work, gathering the likes of Black Skull (Red Skull with a symbiote), Dark Phoenix, Ghost Goblin (Ghost Rider and Green Goblin), Kid Thanos, and finally King Killmonger, an Eric Killmonger that laced vibranium into the destroyer armor and conquered both Asgard and Wakanda.

1. They conquered numerous worlds, but broke their pact with Mephisto by attacking 616 Earth prematurely. This led to the destruction of Avengers Tower and the demise of the Orb, who was guarding the Eye of Uatu the Watcher. He then absorbed a fragment of the Eye into himself before departing. When Ghost Rider came close to vanquishing the Multiversal Masters of Evil, Doom Supreme nearly overpowered the cosmic-enhanced Ghost Rider until an alternate Tony Stark variant of Ant-Man and Deathlok intervened on behalf of the hero. However, Doom Supreme deserted his allies when they engaged both the Avengers and Prehistoric Avengers, abandoning them to reunite with his faithful followers, the Dooms.

In the battle between Mephisto’s Council of Red and the Multi-Universe Avengers, Doctor Doom enters the fray to seize control over the power of the God Quarry, a power Mephisto had coveted himself. He confronted Old Man Phoenix, Avenger Prime, and numerous other heroes as they fought for the fate of all existence. Over time, Doom manages to obtain a sample of multi-universe energy, but it petrifies him when the Multi-Universe Avengers, including a Ghost Rider who took control of Doom’s Planet (now known as the Planet of Vengeance), close the rift in the God Quarry, thereby permanently neutralizing the multiversal threats posed by both Mephisto and Doctor Doom Supreme.

Doom Supreme Heading for The MCU?

Could Robert Downey Jr Bring Doom Supreme and the Multiversal Masters of Evil to Life?

Although Doom Supreme is a recent variant of Doom, and the original Doom has not yet been presented, the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) often strays from traditional characterizations and narratives. For example, Thanos’ motivation for acquiring the Infinity Stones in the MCU was ideological, unlike his comic book counterpart who sought them to impress Death, whom he adored. So, might the creators of the MCU reimagine Doom Supreme similarly, portraying him as a multiversal menace who views his actions as necessary for preserving reality, but according to his own methods?

Introducing characters from previous Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films like a younger version of Thanos, the Red Skull bonded with a symbiote, or Michael B. Jordan’s Killmonger reprising his role as King Killmonger could lead to an exciting new phase for the build-up to Secret Wars. This approach would be similar to how Thanos’s Black Order was utilized in Avengers: Infinity War.
