After years of loyalty to the HyperX Alloy Elite 2, this beauty has managed to sway me with its sleek design and heavenly key-feel.
As a dedicated fan, I’ve found myself constantly returning to my HyperX Alloy Elite 2 for the past four years, thinking no mechanical keyboard could possibly entice me away. However, the Trust Gaming GX Torix 866 has proven me wrong. Despite being lighter than some, it maintains a solid presence on my desk. The tactile experience alone justifies the price, making it an irresistible choice for me.
After transitioning to mechanical keyboards, it’s challenging to contemplate returning, but when they feel as comfortable as the Torix, it becomes even more difficult. Let’s discuss its design first. It’s aesthetically pleasing – yes, it’s gorgeous! Sleek, matt black, featuring low-profile keys and minimalist design elements. As a fundamental keyboard, it’s extremely compact with clear, large key labels. However, the 16.8 million color RGB settings truly elevate its appearance.
There are multiple settings, from multicoloured or plain white keys that light up as you press them, to wave forms and patterns, to my personal favourite, which has every key glow a different colour that ebb and flow naturally, turning the keyboard into a vibrant rainbow on your desk. It’s genuinely hard to look at it without feeling better – if that’s your kind of thing, of course.
But while you can sit and look at a keyboard all day if you like, no one buys them to be ornamental. And luckily the Trust Gaming GX Torix 866 is a dream to type with. For the price of around £60 (at time of writing), you’re getting the promise of 50 million keystrokes, linear switches and solid anti-ghosting technology so you don’t drop presses. Handily there’s an adjustable volume knob on the face, too, which is just convenient.
Feel free to personalize the RGB lighting on the Trust app for your specific preferences, even though the pre-set options might suffice for many users. This keyboard is primarily designed for gaming, so if you’re aiming for a stylish setup that shines just right, it can be customized. Additionally, you have the option to purchase the GX Torix 866 with either a UK or US layout.
