Marvel's Wolverine Should Use One of Deadpool and Wolverine's Easter Eggs

As a seasoned gamer with over two decades under my belt, I’ve seen the evolution of gaming from 2D pixel art to immersive open-world experiences. The upcoming Marvel’s Wolverine has me particularly excited due to its potential for various suits and Easter eggs, much like the Spider-Man games.

Spoilers ahead for Deadpool and Wolverine.

Highlights

  • Marvel’s Wolverine is likely to offer various suits like Spider-Man games, possibly inspired by MCU.
  • Deadpool and Wolverine’s success could lead to some funny references in Marvel’s Wolverine.
  • An Easter egg alluding to Henry Cavill’s Wolverine and his iconic “arm reload” from Mission Impossible could add charm to the game.

If the Wolverine game from Marvel is similar to the Spider-Man game, then it’s likely that there will be multiple bonus suits for players to unlock and use. The suits in the Spider-Man games are often based on comic book outfits, but Insomniac Games has also drawn inspiration from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Suits like the homemade suit from Spider-Man: Homecoming, the Iron Spider suit from Avengers: Infinity War, and the Integrated suit from No Way Home have been added to Marvel’s Spider-Man and its sequel.

As Deadpool and Wolverine’s movies continue to be hugely popular, there’s an increasing chance that content related to these characters will feature in Marvel’s Wolverine game. Given Hugh Jackman’s legendary blue and yellow costume is much loved by fans, it seems likely this design could be incorporated into the game. Moreover, Insomniac has the potential to pay homage to one of the movies’ standout cameos, eliciting plenty of laughter from players.

Bringing the Cavillrine to PS5

In the movie Deadpool and Wolverine, numerous cameos were featured, among them several versions of Wolverine from various universes. There was Age of Apocalypse Wolverine, the comic-accurate height Wolverine, the Wolverine from The Incredible Hulk #340, and Patch. As Deadpool travels through dimensions in search of his co-title character, these characters make an appearance. Most of these references were enjoyable nods to the X-Men comics, but one particular variant took viewers by surprise and became one of the funniest moments in the film: a Wolverine portrayed by none other than Henry Cavill.

Introducing Henry Cavill’s Wolverine, affectionately dubbed “Cavillrine” by Deadpool, into Marvel’s Wolverine would undeniably add a hilarious touch to the game. Given that Insomniac Games have a history of incorporating comic and media jokes in their creations, such as the Spider-Man pointing meme animation in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, or the Bombastic Bag-Man suit in the first game, it wouldn’t be surprising if they found a clever way to include Cavillrine too.

In the style used by Insomniac Games for Spider-Man suits in their series, it’s highly improbable we’ll see a Cavillrine costume within the game. Although they’ve incorporated movie suits, Insomniac has never altered a character’s facial model to resemble the actors portraying Spider-Man. Obtaining Henry Cavill’s likeness rights might be tricky. However, given his passion for gaming, he might support such a project. Since the Wolverine costume mainly consists of a white tank top and jeans – clothing that Logan often wears – it’s likely this attire will already be included in the game without Cavill’s face.

Wolverine Should Reload His Arms, Too

A more plausible scenario might involve Cavillrine making an appearance via an Easter egg. This could take various shapes, yet a well-crafted animation would be ideal to honor Cavill. Previously, Insomniac has integrated amusing elements into their animations, such as the idle animations in ‘Spider-Man: Miles Morales’.

In the game Marvel’s Wolverine, it’s likely that Wolverine will frequently unsheathe his claws. To avoid repetition, Insomniac may need to create various animations for this action. An interesting touch could be incorporating Henry Cavill’s “arm reload” move from Mission Impossible: Fallout into Wolverine’s extended claw mechanism, adding a stylish flair to the character.

In a manner reminiscent of Cavill’s portrayal of claw-popping in Deadpool and Wolverine, this move seamlessly suits the character. It could be an extra detail during non-combat scenes, enhancing the game without disrupting the gameplay experience for those unaware of the reference. However, it would undeniably delight fans who recognize it.
