Upcoming Action RPGs With Combo Systems

As the year winds down, there are still plenty of exciting games set to release. Fans of action games can look forward to Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, while RPG enthusiasts will enjoy the Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake. And for those who love racing, Kirby Air Riders is on the way!

Action RPG fans have something to look forward to as well! While there aren’t a ton releasing in 2025, several promising action RPGs with impressive combat systems are planned for 2026. If you enjoy mastering challenging battles, these games are definitely worth checking out.

Where Winds Meet

An Open-World Wuxia

  • Planned Release Date: 11/14/25
  • Planned Systems: Mobile, PC, and PS5

Where Winds Meet is a new, free-to-play action RPG with a vast open world. Its combat system is inspired by Wuxia, a style often seen in Chinese films like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, emphasizing martial arts and fantastical elements.

The game features fast-paced combat with lots of spins and aerial moves, promising a thrilling experience. What really makes it different from other open-world games is that up to four players can team up and explore the world while enjoying martial arts battles together.

The Legend Of Heroes: Trails Beyond The Horizon

The Best Of Turn-Based And Action

  • Planned Release Date: 1/15/26
  • Planned Systems: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, and Switch 2

Originally released in Japan in 2024, The Legend of Heroes: Trails Beyond the Horizon is coming to Western audiences in January. Similar to the recently released Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter, this new game lets players choose between traditional turn-based battles and faster-paced, real-time combat.

The game lets you combine normal and magical skills, and even team up with your allies for powerful combos. This unique combat system is a big reason why the Trails series is so loved by RPG players, despite being a little less mainstream than games like Final Fantasy.

Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties

Beware Of Bikes

  • Planned Release Date: 2/12/26
  • Planned Systems: PC, PS4, PS5, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S

Originally launched for the PS3 in 2010, Yakuza 3 is back with Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties. This updated version includes new content, and players can now experience the story from the viewpoint of a key antagonist, Yoshitaka.

Players can experience brutal combat as either Yoshitaka or Kazuma, the hero of the Yakuza series. They can fight using their fists or whatever objects they find around them, like bicycles. Characters can improve their fighting skills with skill points, unlocking new combos and making their battles even more impressive as they fight throughout Japan.

Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered

Celebrating 25 Years

  • Planned Release Date: 3/19/26
  • Planned Systems: PC, PS5, Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series X/S

Dynasty Warriors 3: Complete Edition Remastered is the latest in a series of updated games, but it’s based on a title originally released way back in 2001. Dynasty Warriors 3 was a huge hit on the PlayStation 2, letting players choose from a large roster of characters.

Honestly, one of the biggest reasons I keep playing Dynasty Warriors is the combat. It’s just so satisfying to jump into the thick of things with all sorts of different characters โ€“ whether I’m using a sword or a massive spear. And let me tell you, filling up that Musou meter and unleashing a crazy attack on a battlefield packed with enemies? It never gets old. It’s always a blast!

Glaciered

Ice Age

  • Planned Release Date: Q1 2026
  • Planned Systems: PC and Switch 2

Coming in 2026, Glaciered is a truly original RPG set in a post-apocalyptic world. After the Earth froze over, humanity adapted to life underwater. Players take on the role of a Tuai โ€“ a unique hybrid creature โ€“ capable of learning magic and wielding blade-like weapons attached to their wings.

Players can improve their characters through mutations, gaining stronger stats and new skills. Finding better equipment, like weapons, works similarly to games like Diablo. Despite underwater levels often being frustrating in games, Glaciered promises exciting and smooth combat.

Limit Zero Breakers

Breaking Anime Combos

  • Developer: VIC GAME STUDIOS
  • Publisher: NCSOFT Corporation
  • Planned Release Date: TBA
  • Planned Systems: Mobile and PC

Like Where Winds Meet, Limit Zero Breakers is a free-to-play game, but it has a distinct anime art style. The game is set in a world of floating continents and airships, which is reminiscent of the popular floating island themes seen in 90s media.

Players assemble a team to fight in battles that emphasize combining skills to overcome enemy defenses. The game is primarily a single-player experience, but it also features dungeons and raids designed for three-player cooperative play.

Abyss X Zero

A PS1-Era Epic

  • Planned Release Date: TBA
  • Planned Systems: PC

Don’t hold your breath waiting for a new Mega Man Legends game. But if you enjoy the gameplay of The Legend of Zelda, combined with the exploration and puzzles of Metroid, all with a retro PlayStation 1 look, then Abyss X Zero might be exactly what you’re looking for.

In Abyss X Zero, players control two different characters, Codename A and Codename Z, and journey through dungeons filled with dangerous robots. They’ll battle these enemies using both close-range and long-range attacks. Developed by Studio Pixel Punk, the game promises fast-paced, challenging combat similar to their acclaimed 2021 title, Unsighted.
