The Crust: Most Important Structures To Build First

The Crust: Most Important Structures To Build First

Highlights

  • Start with solar panels and batteries in The Crust for power.
  • Charing stations are crucial to keep construction drones active.
  • Construct an elevator to move between surface and subterranean modes.

As a seasoned space colonizer with over two decades of experience under my belt, I can’t stress enough the importance of prioritizing your infrastructure needs in The Crust. The game is not for the faint-hearted, and forgetting to connect that battery bank could leave you stranded, much like forgetting to fill up your spaceship before a long journey.

In this game, titled “The Crust“, you’ll find yourself building colonies on the moon. It combines elements of colony-building games with factory simulation and management aspects. Your task begins with a few construction drones at your disposal. You must then mine and gather the necessary raw resources to establish a complete lunar base.

In sandbox mode for the game “The Crust”, players should initially focus on constructing essential structures, with power generation and storage being the primary concern at first. Afterward, it’s important to establish the necessary mining infrastructure for gathering ore. Lastly, to utilize the mined resources effectively, basic manufacturing facilities must be created to transform raw ore into useful materials like steel and smart concrete.

7 Solar Panels

Basic Power Generation

  • They only work at night.
  • Better options later in the game.

As an enthusiast, I’ve found that managing energy is a crucial hurdle in the intriguing world of The Crust. In this setting, virtually everything—from mining operations to construction drones—relies on electricity to function. At the outset of the game, my initial power generation resource is limited to a modest solar panel.

Let’s initially set up approximately 5 mini solar panels as a first step. After they’ve been assembled, connect them end-to-end (in series) and then link them to a battery system. Just like in our world, solar panels don’t generate power during the night, so batteries are vital components for a lunar outpost.

6 Batteries

Charged In The Day Expended At Night

  • Used to store electricity.
  • Don’t forget to wire them up.

Beginning a round of “The Crust” implies that you initially have limited battery power; larger batteries are acquired as the game progresses through research. At the outset, players can only build compact solar panels, necessitating a substantial battery storage system to sustain them during the lunar night.

In the initial stages, it’s beneficial to pair one compact battery with each small solar panel. Arrange the batteries in a series connection, followed by linking the solar panels to the first battery in the series. In this virtual game, energy is drawn from the opposite end of the connected battery bank.

5 Charging Station

For Recharging Construction And Mining Drones

The Crust: Most Important Structures To Build First
  • Don’t let drones run empty.
  • Should be linked to batteries.

In ‘The Crust’, every entity requires electricity for operation, including construction drones. Upon deployment, these drones are fully charged. This initial charge is sufficient to assemble some mini solar panels and a few batteries. However, it’s important to remember that drones need periodic recharging; otherwise, they may run out of power.

If the player’s construction drones run out of power, they won’t be able to build a charging station to recharge them. It would be wise to construct charging stations as soon as possible, once you’ve established a few solar panels and batteries. Don’t forget to link it to the battery bank for efficient energy storage.

4 Elevator

Required For Moving Between Surface And Subterranean Mode

The Crust: Most Important Structures To Build First
  • Must be Powered
  • Acts as a power conduit

In this game, The Crust functions on two distinct science fiction terrains. Initially, there’s the outer landscape, where players construct their power sources, generators, batteries, and so forth. Subsequently, there’s the underground terrain, where players dig for raw resources and refine them.

To move between these two distinct maps, the player must first create an elevator system. This elevator needs to be linked to the power source afterwards. Interestingly, the elevator can also serve as a power transmission line, channeling electricity to the underground map. The elevator construction should ideally take place once the player has established a fundamental power network and a charging station for drones.

3 Drone Reconfiguration Module

Needed For Mining Drones

The Crust: Most Important Structures To Build First
  • Can convert up to 5 drones.
  • Only works in subterranean mode.

After arranging their power production and storage system and building a charging station along with an elevator, the next step for the player is to concentrate on the underground layout. This area is crucial as it’s where the player gathers all the basic resources necessary for advancement in The Crust.

Initially, we need to develop a Drones Adaptation System, which serves as an essential component for the gameplay. This system allows players to transform five of their construction drones into mining drones. After this conversion, they can delegate these new mining drones to perform excavation tasks.

2 Smelting Furnace x 2

For Smelting Raw Ore

The Crust: Most Important Structures To Build First
  • 1 For Steel Production
  • 1 For Silicon Production

As I shift my focus from above ground, I’m diving headfirst into the lunar excavation process – moon mining! The crude ore mined here is essential for generating the two fundamental resources I’ll need to advance in this intriguing game, The Crust.

To gather iron and silicon ores, they must first be mined. After mining, these ores are then heated in a forge (furnace). Since a forge can only produce either steel or silicon at a time, it’s wise to build two forges now – one for creating steel, the other for silicon production. The player should consider upgrading their power system if it cannot support the operation of both forges.

1 Pressing Module

For Pressing Smart Concrete

The Crust: Most Important Structures To Build First
  • Early game building material.
  • Takes basic regolith as input.

The main construction material that is needed in the first part of The Crust, is smart concrete. This is produced in the pressing module. It is very simple to make smart concrete. The player just needs to instruct some mining drones in excavation mode, to start digging up regolith. This is then turned into smart concrete in the pressing module.

In the course of the game, a player will eventually require complex building resources, yet a crucial module must be built first to unlock access to these sophisticated technologies.
